Need to replace the floor drain covers; not sure how to remove.......Hopefully not from below the floor. Would appreciate input from anyone who has removed the cover.
2006 44 DA.
Thanks.

Mine screw in and out with a spanner wrench. It is the same wrench that we use to service the sea chests in the bilge. Takes very little torque to unscrew them. Use a lite touch if that is what you have. Some pry out. Not a great design.

I am replacing all of my drains and the “cover” with the holes. I found these at HD for like $10. They are made from solid SS and I had a machinist turn them down just slightly. I think they would work fine as the are. I have the same ones in the shower floor, head floor, and all sinks. I have done them all except 2. The part with the holes is just pressure fitted with some small tabs. They will pop out. I found where to buy them from a marine site, but they were like $40.

That looks like a great replacement. I need to replace the entire drain, including the holes cover also. From the pic, it looks like the unit has threads on the bottom, so I am assuming I need to gain access from below the floor. I'll need to take a closer look when I am at the boat later this week. Thanks for the information.

Yes, you will have to gain access below the floor. Just like a drain at home, the nut tightens up under the floor. I have 4-of them in the floor. I have done 2- of those thus far. On one of them, I had to take a Dremel and cut the nut off. What a pain that one was. First thing is to remove the attached drain pipes. That was also fun. My shower sump is in the hallway floor between my two heads. The access cover for that gave me acess below the head floors.

Good luck!

That was my concern.....thanks again. Not looking forward to it......

I have to replace mine for the second head. Broke it changing the shower sump.

That's unfortunate. I am wondering how in the world I am going to gain enough access to remove the old assembly.....I have been in the area recently and it is tight to say the least. To remove and install the drain assembly, I may have to do this job by "feel" and with mirror! The old assembly is extremely corroded, so don't think I can rehab.....and my wife takes great exception to the nasty looking drain......

My wife took great exception as well....that was my motivation. It ain’t easy. They make a fork like tool that fits in from the top after removing the cover with the holes. My wife had to hold that while I got up under it with several different tools to remove the nut. I had one corroded very bad and had to cut the nut with a Dremel. That one took about 3 hours and the other took 20 min. Been putting off the other two...
