The Official Whiskey And Spirits Thread.

Usual mixing: Makers and Ginger
Sipping Suntory: Yamasaki Japanese Single malt
Wine: Any good Napa or Sonoma Red
Beer: finally appreciating the craft beer offerings
Cockpit fridge is always stocked with Bud Light though

Tried Costco Gin? It is very good. I also like Hendricks when it is priced right.

Costco doesn’t sell booze here in the “People’s Republic of New YorK”.
Just beer, and I think wine.
I have tried Hendricks and it’s good, but I still like Tangueray for mixing with tonic, and Bombay Martinis. Old habits die hard.

Of course they cannot sell in NY, no, they would never allow the largest alcohol seller in the world to sell in NY. So sad.

Don't drink much mixed unless you count olive juice. LOL
Bourbons: Buffalo Trace when I can get it. Or Hancocks single Barrel or Michter's small batch.
Vodka: Tito's
Gin: Beefeater's for Dirty Martinis. Suttler's (made here in Winston) for sipping. Best I've had.
Rye: Broad Branch (also made in Winston)
Beer: Most anything but Bud, Miller, and the like. Do like the offerings from Saranac.
Wine: Red. Have a lot of wineries, over 120, within 50 mi. Lot of amazing choices. Prefer French grapes.

Costco in Oceanside NY sells alcohol. Not in same quantities like outside of Ny (a smaller selection) but has all the Costco favorites.

I wonder why they don’t sell it in Melville.

Back on bourbon, I had an opportunity to try a higher end bourbon, Wathens, that the same mash was put in different barrels and one barrel was in the top rack of a non-climate controlled aging building while the other was on the bottom rack.

The bottom rack bottle had subtle flavors of citrus while the top rack bottle had hints of leather and maple syrup. It was fascinating to see how the temperature difference in the building changed the taste.

I am mainly a beer drinker
Beer:
Michelob Ultra, Bud Light or Corona at the lake otherwise some of the local crafts:

Generally stick to the Blondes and ales, not a big fan of hoppy IPA's.
Sierra Nevada (Mills River NC)
High Wire (Asheville NC)
Old Mecklenburg (Charlotte NC)
New Belgium (Asheville NC)
Natty Greens (Greensboro NC)
The are lots of others and I will try about any beer once, like to wonder around in Total Wine and look at all the beers.

When I was in college I drank BEER, sometimes I drank too much BEER, I still drink BEER, I like BEER.

I might have a glass of wine occasionally also, generally like red, but honestly I could not tell a $10bottle from a $1000.

On the rare occasion I drink a mixed drink, it's a gin or vodka and tonic. In my younger days I drank a log of Jagermeister, but I would catagorize that as stupid, not really a liquor.

Ok, I'll hit this one

Bourbons: Buffalo Trace, Woodford Reserve
Vodka: Tito's (on the boat), Luksosowa (house-cheap and shockingly good)
Gin: Hendrick's
Rye: Sazerac
Beer: Wife and I are huge into beer, but lean towards big IPAs. Best in the country right now is coming out of Vermont, and I think the best Double IPA in the country is called Sip of Sunshine from Lawson's Finest Liquids.
Wine: All over the board here, but always lean towards dry, so big cabs, Sauvingon Blancs and the like.

Some of the beer obsession:

The end result of a trip 3 years ago, helping a friend in Portland Oregon move back to NY. We were going to do it in his Pontiac Sunfire, but I'm old, and that car is small. And we wanted to hit some breweries on the way back. Instead, I bought a used Yukon XL on my AMEX sight unseeen, flew out, threw his Sunfire on a tow dolly, and drove back, hitting multiple beer spots along the way (admittedly, we did start out with his small collection already). This was the day after we got to my house and unpacked

Beer: Miller Lite
Liqueur: Jager bomb (Monster Lo-Carb and Jager in a proper bomb cup)
Scotch: The Glenlevet 12+
Whiskey: Ole Smoky Salty Caramel
Vodka: Tito's

Well, I don't drink any hardened spirits at all, if thats the proper terminology, and generally don't drink wine either, though I do keep some of that on hand .

But I love beer. Generally there is Heineken Light, Labatt, Moosehead and Shiner Bock in some combination in the fridge. And it might be in my head, but it tastes better out of a bottle or a glass.

In the summertime I also enjoy Moosehead Radler (beer and juice). I dont particularly like it as a 'just having a beer' beer, but when its hot and you're hot from working, it is phenomenal. I can't wait to try some this summer while anchored out on a hot day

Could'nt tell from your sig, but you definitely sound Canadian!!

Literally dumped a bottle of Ole Smokey Salty Caramel out on Saturday. It was a gift a couple of years ago and no one would drink it.

....Deep Eddy's flavored vodka (lemon or cranberry) ...

Yeah, this became the rage at my dock this year. We all had a big bottle on our boats. I'd always start with maybe 4:1 Deep Eddy:water over ice, but towards the end of the night, it would become Eddy, maybe an ounce of water, ice.

This thread has been fascinating thus far, boating is perceived to be an expensive hobby for the well off, most of you posting here can buy whatever you want to drink without too much budget issue.

While some like a particular higher end drink, very few are into higher end tastings. I have easily 20 different bourbons that I choose by my flavor mood. We do taste tests with friends.

We also like to make perfect cocktails. For me it is an old fashioned or a Sazerac.

At home I do like to create/mix/blend real cocktails, but it's a bit more of a hassle on the boat, so I tend to stay simple there with max 3-4 ingredient drinks.

When I'm out at a proper bar, I usually stick with Manhattan/Old Fashioned/Sazerac/Negroni as a rule.

I do have a small mid-level collection of things at my home bar. Macallan 18, Johnny Blue, some mid-range ($50-$100) scotches, about 5 different Absinthes, both green and yellow Chartreuse, and some weirder stuff.

I will share through PM a great recipe for Old Fashioned.

I know nothing of Absinthe, but need to for my Sazerac's.
