Distracted Driving.

Every close call with a vehicle I ever had while riding my motorcycle has been with someone who was on their phone! And most of those were girls/women 16 to 40 just from what I can guess about their age. Don't have too many people do a lot of stupid thing while driving my pickup but then again it's a full size 3/4 ton with crew cab and 8' bed so they usually see me coming and I'm bigger than their vehicle

It makes sense as females are heavier users of social media and messaging.

Not entending any political spin on this lasting injuries assertion, but I can tell you based upon 40 years of dealing with trauma patients, that getting shot leads to many life long, disfiguring injuries. Cars and guns are both deadly, and yes, I own both.

I agree both are deadly but cars deaths/injuries are greater in number but serious solutions to lower car accidents never get any press time. Reason: politics, ratings and money. Opioid abuse is a much more widely discussed.

As someone who drives 1000 miles/week, I see distracted driving on an hourly basis. Cell phones, makeup, you name it. And those who hang in the left lane and just don't care, everyone has to go around them. Md and PA drivers are the worst.

Indiana passed a law about left lane driving and it had no affect. Funny thing, often the left lane driver is over there to have more room for their distracted driving.

I guess you work does not take you to Ohio or you would have added them to your list.

And Massachusetts!

Penna passed same law, illegal to drive in left lane on a divided highway except to pass, but it didn't work either

Unfortunately bad driving is rampant all over today. I do not think that training is up to speed, so to say. Cars are to easy to drive so the skill of driving is no longer taught at all.

But the law of moving over from the slow lane when flashing lights are on the shoulder ....gives everybody the right of way no matter if its safe or not. Nobody read the "or slow down" part of the law.

I blame the enforcing and advertising "it's the law" when it comes to the fast lane problem.

We have this intersection I have to go thru everyday... where a one way meets a one way and you can only turn left. No one will turn left on a red. Now that is not anyone's fault but the driver as that law has been around since everyone got their license.

Not sure I got your point on the first paragraph. Yes they should publicize the law so folks understand the issue. I see folks not turn on red when clear often, however, most of the time it is not lack of understanding or knowledge, they are on their phone and are distracted from making a decision, and quite comfortable in their own little selfish world. Just anther version of the 3rd lane driver that is there because it takes less attention and they can play on their phone...

People move over from the slow lane when they see flashing lights on the shoulder...Problem is they think they have the right away with their turn signal on and I should give way.

Here is a diagram of this Gong show of an interchange we just got. The circle is two one ways and a light. You might be right...they are probably calling a friend to help them through the intersection

I'm with you now, that is a very confusing design for the uninitiated. I was thinking of the open I70 type left lane driver.

Blueone, just imagine how much a team of engineers was paid to come up with that mess!:D
I can't imagine..although I do feel it in my taxes. It actually works very well...Our visitors are very intimidated by it. Especially the two Grandmas who have figured out how to get off the exit before this one and take back roads to the house :)

We have a few of those here around Charlotte - they call it a diverging diamond. The idea, at least here is they keep traffic coming off of a busy interstate moving so it does not backup onto the interstate. It's a freak show the first time you go through it - you feel like you are going down the wrong side of the road. Roads the interstate this is on (I-77 near Lake Norman) is so screwed up with the toll lane project it's hard to tell if it is working. Lord knows how much it cost to build.

In Texas there our thousands of signs posted on the major highways stating 'Left Lane for Passing Only'. People are VERY aware of the law but simply just don't care. Until it is enforced like speeding it will continue to be ignored.

Welcome to America.

It is really just a symptom of a bigger issue, we have reached a point where the average person is selfish and it is all about them. In the past only a few were that selfish and society could absorb it so it was not really an issue to society at large. Not so much today...

I have read that civil engineers believe that if traffic did what it was supposed to on multi lane roads efficiency would be amazing to the point many areas that need additional lanes would no longer need them...
