I have a westerbeke 3.0 water cooled. Gen set . It will run 15 seconds then shut off. Checked and jumped out the temp, oil and exhaust temp switches . Got a manual on line it sayed to u plug a wire and jump out the coil if it runs longer that 15 secs it’s a bad over speed board . Replaced the over speed board . An it still shuts down after 15 seconds. Any help would be much appreciate. Thanks in advance

Mine turned out to be a bad fuel shutoff solenoid on a 7.0BCG
Carp Coastal Products generally has the best pricing online

Thanks for the info

I have the same unit in my boat - the boards are pretty robust and rarely the problem - I have had to replace and adjust the mag pickup a couple of times, last time I had the same issue (shut down after briefly running) that was it - also make sure the carb and its linkage are clean and move very freely - it likes fresh plugs too - let us know how it goes

Thanks I downloaded the manual on line . The pick up you are talking about is it on top of the motor and 2 wires plug in the side of control board

yes - it threads into the top cover - take the old one out, look in the hole and make sure a flywheel tooth is centered on the hole (if not use a small screwdriver to "pry" the flywheel around) - lightly bottom out the new one the tooth and then back it out the appropriate amount (there will be a number of turns (1/2 IIRC) or feeler gauge spec in the manual) its tricky to get a feeler gauge in there, but very doable

I ordered one today. Thanks

glad you found it - and thanks for closing the loop on this thread - so much for my "boards are rarely the problem" comment...

Winterized the generator. Thought it was fixed . Only ran it 15 mins . Have been working on it since memorial day weekend . . 1st the temp switch shorted to ground . And poped the 10 amp fuse . Ordered a temp switch and it run about 20 mins and then shut down on high water engine temp. And notice the water flow was about lake temperature. It was a blockage in the sump plate . I also installed a new thermostat. Put new hose on the water feed and ran for 45 mins no problems.
