460 DA Owners Thread

Having replaced the carpet with flooring, one thing to be aware of, when you add depth to the flooring it will make it very hard to replace the refrigerator. It's a tight fit between the floor and the top of the cabinet. I put the floor down without adding the luan, had a piece of rubber trim at the edge by the fridge and had to remove it to get the old fridge out and the new one in even then it was tight.
Bob

Thanks, I have had that experience already :(...but I accounted for that when I put the new fridge in 2 years ago...it was slightly taller than the original Norcold and I had to cut out about 1/2" along the top of the cabinet flange to get it in over the carpet. Once it got past the edge of the carpet it dropped down to the floor and I almost had a gap along the top edge...no screws were holding in the top flange. :)
For this remodel I will have 2 layers of luan under the fridge and that raised it perfectly to the top of the flange and will allow me to slide it out onto the new flooring without issues.

I love boat projects!!!

You got it!
You're going to love what I am doing with the floor hatches. :) I am going to place a 5 mm luan down over the fiberglass to make the floor perfectly smooth...I will post pictures of the floor hatch inserts I am having a buddy make. This will make the rest of the install quite simple. I can tell you that we have settled on a Shaw flooring and will get you the spec's on it once we get it ordered in a couple weeks.

Here is a link to some of the photos I have taken thus far....https://wolfsden460sundancer.shutterfly.com/pictures/234
Thank you. I had been chatting with Doozie (Bob) about the project as well. The product I was thinking of was a luxury vinyl plank and it's 5mm thick, 7" wide. I will wait and look at your result.

Ok guys and gals, here's a new question I have never read about on this thread. The three cabin lights, above the salon sofa, the "outside" two don't light up when the dimmer is switched on. Changed the light bulbs, no luck. I read inside the fixture a contact number for the light "cans" so I ordered two of them up. I installed the new cans today and the light closest to the bow turns on and off with the center light, while the light closest to the recliner is on no matter what the setting is on the switch. Any ideas? I have switched the wire position, no luck. These lights all appear to be run with separate wires to a dimmer relay and then to the switch.
TIA

Those are the AC lights. They are controlled with the vimar dimmer switch above the end table. I’ve not personally traced the wiring but I would remove the switch and test them individually. My guess is the dimmer itself is as based on your diagnoses this far.

Hmmm, I didn't even think it could be the dimmer switch. I will have to see what the wiring looks like going to the dimmer. Thanks for your input!

Yes, the rheostat in the dimmer can go bad and create the issue....sort of like "dead" spots in the wiring. If you pull the dimmer out you will only see the AC 120v wires going to it as far as I can remember...I had it out this summer, but maybe I am forgetting something.

Racor 75/900
I should know this but for the life of me I cant remember where I bought the replacement filters for my Racor system.

Where do you like to buy on line and what is the best size?

I ran 10 micron for a while but now back to 30 micron. Your on-engine Fleetguards are first pass 20 microns and second pass 10 if you are using the FF5285 so 30 micron Racors are appropriate.

Awfully quiet out there in CSR land...anybody have any fun projects they are undertaking?
It's lonely in northern Michigan this time of year. :)

Sadly my next project will be to sell the 460 :(
Well that's too bad...sorry to hear that. Unless of course you are moving yup to a 550 or something. :)

Last week I replaced the aft bilge pump lines, pumps and switches, and painted the aft bilge with interlux bilgekote. I’m doing some engine room brightening as well. Sanding, primering, and painting the mains and gernerator as well as replacing the original wire loom that had white paint on it.

So far it’s looking nice but it sure is a ton of work and very time consuming. I’ve got to haul the boat for bottom paint in February so I want to be done with this project over the next month.

Also bought a NAV-pac by Newmar so I can start the engines without worrying about the electronics... plan on installing it this weekend.

Last weekend really frustrated me. Had water leaking from the base of my master head. Rebuilt it twice with new seals before my wife realized it was the grommet around the vacuum breaker. Anyway it has all new parts and new lines now and a 47.00 grommet.

Heading down this weekend. I love boating around thanksgiving it’s no quiet on the water.

Very interesting..."Also bought a NAV-pac by Newmar so I can start the engines without worrying about the electronics... plan on installing it this weekend. " I didn't know they made one of these (just looked it up)...would love to get a little more detail on it and where you are going to install it? I am assuming you will run the output leads to a terminal block that has all your electronics connected to it under the helm?

I worked my "arse" off last summer trying to get my MFD's isolated from the engine start "shutdown". That looks like a product that will completely stop that! I have 3 MFD's, the VHF and Fusion stereo I would like to keep isolated from this issue. Any photos forthcoming would be appreciated!!

I think I have about 5 projects going on currently...LOL
1. Adding a new Raymarine Quantum radar and removing the massive Seaview tower that holds the old open array and Tracvision.
2. Adding a new a98 MFD
3. Thanks to "NotHerDecision", I will now be adding the Nav-Pac by Newmar. :)
4. Cleaning up all the unnecessary wiring under the helm....years of wires added and deleted that are just cluttering the area up.
5. Adding a new Raymarine Network switch because of the new a98 and Raydome.
6. Removed salon carpet, leveled the floor and adding new plank flooring to give the salon some color and depth.
7. Replacing old carpet in the floor hatches with Dri-Deck
8. Gel coat repair to port hull to fix someone else's poor repair some years ago.
9. Replacing the gold Sea Ray emblems and 460 logo's with new chrome finished emblems.
10. Polishing and sealing...(the never ending process it seems)

Ok, so a few more than 5 upgrades, but I still have 174 days, 22 hrs. and 10 minutes until we launch!!! :)

Mike, I'm sorry to hear that you're selling the 460. FWIW, I have my boat on the market here on the West Coast.
My wife wants to get a beach house and the kids don't like to go out on the water anymore. WTH?

Stuart, I guess things just change. If you would have asked me three months ago if I was going to sell, the answer would have been hell no! We just bought a new to us house and the renovation will take awhile. Then my bride wants to spend some time in Spain with her mother so no time left. Best of luck too you!!

Mike

Good luck guys. I was thinking the same after eleven seasons with our 460. The boat is near perfect with little left to do and we've been just about everywhere we want to go and then some.
So recognizing that lull in life, I bought a condo on the water and thought that was our future. But I was told by my wife, "not so fast". "Rent out the condo and let's get a few more years of boating in." Gee, I guess I'll just have to keep the boat.....
