CSR Doesn't Like NFL Like They Used To...

I still watch the Steelers but they don't and haven't had anybody kneel. The only issue they had was the fiasco with Villanueva exiting the tunnel without the team. They had a reasonable explanation and no 'disrespect' type things since. I don't like Tomlin and don't respect him but have been a Steeler fan for life.

It is not a team issue, it a league issue.

Another one who lost interest in pro games when the BS started. Now I'm into college football. As a transplant now living in AL I'm torn between "Roll Tide" or "War Eagle". Our youngest niece is going to Clemson so I'm hoping for an Alabama/Clemson national championship game. My heart still belongs to the NJ Giants, although that's not going so well lately.

I have reverted back to ND football that I used to follow back in the day. Anyone got info on college football ratings rising?

There are more important things in life. Like boating, working on boats, upgrading boats, posting on forums about boats, boat shopping, dreaming of boats, fantasizing about my next boat, and sunsets.

I used to always say that my two favorite teams were the Seahawks and anyone who beat the Steelers. I dislike them (and Big Ben) about as much as I dislike the Panthers (and Cam Newton).

Well last weekend was a helluva quandry. They were playing each other. First time I can remember ever cheering for both teams to lose. What a great time I had!

So a co-worker told me something his brother said to him. I have needed a police officer, I have needed a doctor, I have needed a teacher, I have needed a plumber. I have NEVER needed a professional athlete or a famous actress/actor.
I wouldn’t say all professional athletes or actress/actors are bad. Life would be really boring.
We have choices, watch or don’t watch.

Watch College ball... kneeling is no watching... This is the United States of America, they have every right to kneel, and I have every right to watch car shows.

I lean pretty consistently right. I believe in Blue Lives Matter, everything the American Flag stands for, our Armed Forces (Go Navy!!!) and fiscal conservatism. If Nancy Pelosi, Harry Reid, Chuck Schumer, Dick Durbin, Hillary Clinton, Ocasio-Cortez or Obama believe in something, that's usually enough for me to be against it. Having said that....I don't let some jacka$$, overpaid, likely under-educated, athlete's protest prevent me from enjoying watching the NFL. While I don't agree with the statement they are making I do believe in their right to say it........and I reserve the right to ignore it while they're doing it. I really don't give it a second thought any longer.

To me, it's not just the jacka$$... it's the team, the coaches, the owners, and the league... they are too sorry to right the situation. Therefore I have no use for any of it.

The problem I have is that is a job and while they are on tv they are on the job and getting paid to do that job and should be doing that and maintaining the standards of that job. They can do the protesting after the job is done. If any of us did anything like that on our jobs how long would we be employed! They have a right to protest all they want just not when they're getting paid to play football and entertain us. Go steelers!!

Technically they do not have the right to "say it" by creating speech during a football game. They can say what they want on their own time. The employers set the rules, likely subject to the agreement with broadcasters. There are several issues I can think of that networks would object to if it were organized and every time.

The NFL, bowing to political correctness bungled the whole issue. Other leagues saw their mistakes and nipped it in the bud.

As much as I disagree with their message ("Yes, we're overpaid millionaires but we're struggling because we're underprivileged blacks") I do not disagree with their right to say it and take a knee.

I DO, however, reserve the right to switch off my TV and not watch those spoiled bastards as they try to convince me they're part of the downtrodden population.

As I've said before: FUGUM.

Mike, where does an employee get the right "to say it and take a knee"?

The NBA does not allow kneeling, as is their right as employers. Players can do what the want on their time.

I agree 100% that they have the right to stand up for what they believe in. But during the national anthem when we pay respect to those who have died for our country is neither the place nor time.

If they really wanted to make a difference they could each take a portion of their overpaid salaries and use it to make a tangible change. Not protest during work time, that solves nothing.

Ever seen Trans Siberian Orchestra? They give 10% of every concert to local charities in the city they are performing in. That is tangibly making a difference.

Go Irish!

Several seasons ago the Seahawks and the Packers were playing a game, and I believe there were replacement or junior refs at that game. Either way, there was an extremely challenging call regarding a catch in the end zone. A lot of uproar about the play ensued, perhaps many of you recall that.

Roger Goodell’s response to that situation was terrible. He attempted to justify the call. He could have said “Yeah, that was a tough call that could have gone many ways. At the end of the day, we have to go with what was called on the field, learn from it and move on. Instead, his response was insulting to my intelligence and impugning to his integrity (at least for me).

That was the start of the decline for me. Then the whole kneeling thing happened and I believe Roger at the helm handled it extremely poorly (again), and to top that the NFL resigned his contract with ludicrous terms. When Roger is gone I will reassess where I stand with that product. Right now the NFL can kiss off as far as I am concerned. I have so much more time for important things on Sundays nowadays.

Your rights as a citizen of the US are not the same as an employee of a company (like an NFL franchise). The league / franchise should have snipped this off when it first occurred and said to "do it on your own time; it's not what we hired you for".
