Official 320 Dancer Thread

Thanks Craig. We only have two switches going down the steps. One for cabin lights, one for foot lights. Neither effect the light inside the panel. Any other thought?
The foot light switch is the switch that turns the panel light on. I would check the connection to the panel light.

More Newbe questions here... With Black Friday fast approaching I am thinking of replacing my 2003 model GPS. I am not going to go with Radar but sometime down the road I may add one of the less expensive models of FLIR. We boat on the Kanawha river which has quite a bit of barge traffic and I know the folks on the river who have added FLIR swear by it for identifying what we call the silent killers on the river. Anyway looking for recommendations on a good quality GPS ( multifunction) unit.
I am thinking of getting the SimRad EVO3 NSS 9. However, have not done this yet so cannot provide a recommendation. I know it allows for 2 transducers, as I was looking to get a forward looking depth finder (lots of shallow water here in Tampa near islands and it changes quite frequently) along with a standard transducer. It supports Radar and probably a tad bit more expensive than the Axiom, but not certain. It is compatible with vessel view, but I think the Axioms are as well.

Looking to purchase a 2004 Sea Ray Sundancer 320 and need some advice. I'm located in Michigan and as you all know we will be unable to do a sea trial until mid/end of April (hopefully).

From what I've been told by the broker is I will have the survey done once we come to an agreement on price. Ownership will be transferred to me prior to sea trial. Broker and seller will hold X amount in escrow until after our sea trial. If all pans out the escrowed amount will be disbursed back to the seller.

I have never purchased a boat at this time of the year so my question to you all is this typical when purchasing a boat at this time of the year in cold climates?

You all have been a wealth of knowledge reading through this forum!

I would hate to tie my money up that long while waiting for the results of a survey. You could have much of the survey done while the boat (if it is in fact on dry land) and that would more than likely give you confidence to wait out the winter while they hold onto your money. You could have the oil analysis done, compression check done. Hull inspection and many of the basic systems could be inspected. All you would then need would be the in the water portion of the survey. I just bought my 320 and it is going into winter storage with us only getting one boat ride during the Sea trial. Good luck with your purchase.

I have only done this once, but it seems odd to me that ownership would be transferred prior to sea trial.
On our deal, we had a signed purchase agreement, I payed 10%, had the survey and seatrial completed.
After we negotiated thru a few items identified thru that, we completed the transaction. The process you described seems to me that it could get a bit messy trying to get your money back if something causes you to back out due to issues during the sea trial. Make sure your purchase agreement clearly addressed that point. I agree that tieing up your cash waiting on sea trial results would be a drawback for me. I hope it works out for you. We went thru the buying process this time last year but were fortunate as the boat was located at Lake Ozark. Survey and seatrial all in the same week. Anyway you look at it, it is a long ass winter! Good luck.

If ownership transferred to you, don’t you have to pay for storage? Then the sea trial fails, let’s say miserably, and now you have paid for storage, and survey, would seem hard to get your money back. I would go back like others have said and say, no, just 10% down, ownership transfers to me when everything is complete.

One more question from the newbie here, I really would like to have a flag pole on the stern of the vessel. Does anyone have a suggestion on placement?
I initially installed the flag pole on the stern.
On the grab rail on the trunk. I got mine from originalswivler.com

I prefer it on the stern as well but when I installed it on my 320, while underway, the flag fluttered back towards the cockpit. It also effects the access to the hatch and caused a few issues when putting up the canvas. When I purchased a dingy, it became apparent that the flag had to move. It is now located just rear of the radar unit.

Don't buy the boat before survey and sea trial have been done. If the broker/seller insist on it, then walk away from this boat.

Dumb question here but, do I leave the battery switches on when connected to shore power? Thanks

Another easy question I hope, how do I check the level of waste in my holding tank? See the attached pic to see what I’m seeing at the main control panel. Not sure how to see the waste level. Thanks.

Yes, and if you have a battery charger (labeled AC Converter on my boat if I recall) it will charge your batteries up. The two circuits are independent, so you can have either one on, both off, both on, but I usually leave mine on so I can still access 12v equipment, like VHF, 12V lights, cigarette lighter charger, if needed.

Mine usually reads empty, but some are different. Here is the explanation from my manual. If you have the 3/4 lights, then maybe you don’t get any lights on until you fill it up.
Did you get the manual from sea Ray downloaded?

I downloaded the manual you show above. Perhaps I just won’t see anything until it’s 3/4 full. That would be good. Thanks again!

Mine takes a bit to start registering. I would recommend to pump at 3/4 full. You don’t want any waste to
work it’s way to the filter.

Got the boat back from the mechanic, ran great today. Finished the generator service, ran it for 30 minutes, ran great (ran the AC even though it never made it above 75 today just to put a load on the generator). Fixed my fresh water pump issue by luck. I have been having an issue with air in the water lines. I was down in the bilge getting pics of the water pump thinking I might replace it, noticed a drip next to it. There is a little clear plastic filter (or something) right next to the pump and it was not tight. Tightened it up, and today my fresh pump worked great.
Only thing I did not get to was the zinc on the generator. Not sure exactly where it is located.

Going to be 42 on Friday next week. Get that sea trial set up. If they want paid they will make it happen.

That filter you described should be the inline filter for your fresh water pump. We remove ours at least once per season and clean it in some vinegar.

For the zincs, Check the heater exchanger on the generator. Can’t remember if there are one or two but the zinc looks like a bolt that goes in the exchanger.

The filter on the 280DA was a PITA to get to. So happy to see where it is located in the 320DA. Clean mine a couple of times during the season.
