Certificate of Documentation Renewal

I don't have any problem giving the CG $26 a year so they can do their job on our waters.

Me either!
Bonus is that I don’t have to put the state registration numbers on my boat.
Not only do I renew online myself, but when I bought my boat from MarineMax I told them to just register it with the state. I did the documentation paperwork myself after seeing what the company they use wanted to charge for it. It was somewhere north of $800.00.
I called the USCG and the woman who answered the phone told me exactly what I needed.
Very easy.

We are not required to have state registration in WV if we are documentated.

Just went onto the site and did my initial documentation. It was super easy. Only question was “depth” of the vessel, I hope that meant draft.

They collect registration fees in NY and you must display the stickers, but not the registration numbers on a documented boat.
Displaying the stickers also helps them to know that you paid the NY sales tax.

Glad for you on that. You can only dream of our property tax rate. LOL

MM
You don't want to see property tax rates in NH either. They don't charge you unless you register your boat. It's a registration fee, not a tax. Based on value.

Same thing on my recent boat purchase. I was doing the doc transfer PLUS a name change and the dealer told me it was cumbersome and I should have a 3rd party do it. Best quote I got was $600. So I called the CG documentation center and spoke to a real person within 2 minutes who told me exactly what forms I needed and it couldn't have been easier. Total cost was $84.

That is a huge difference.

Yup! $84.00 and a few minutes of my time is all it took.
Saved myself well over $700.00.
I’ve helped two other guys I know do it too since then.
I’m a Notary here in NY so I was even able to Notarize the bill of sale for one of those transactions because the seller was present.

What did you charge? LOL

If the boat is documentated for the very first time it is $475.00 plus if you want to pay the first year in advance it is another $75.00. Just paid online and got mine done. Just don’t want folks on here to get the wrong impression of the true initial cost to Federally Document your vessel. That being said you You don’t need to pay someone $600.00 they are just putting $125.00 of your money in their pocket for something you can easily do online yourself.

What site did you do this at?

Just google NVDC and it will take you right to the landing page. You will need the specs on your boat, SN# and personnel information plus a Credit Card and you are all set.

Dude, you just got burned. Go to that site and scroll to the very bottom of the page, you'll see this....
