JimG shared in an earlier post about the CSR Jokes Thread that the 280 DA was by far the most prolific thread. My question is why does that model get so many views, nearly 3 times the nearest models in views?

But here's the most prolific thread with over 1.4M views and over 6,300 replies:
http://www.clubsearay.com/index.php?threads/official-280-sundancer-thread.10064/

As you know, I've been searching these out and just remember that one being way up there. There's a few others with 600,000 views or so, but the 280 is the big daddy!

The 280DA was one of SeaRay’s biggest selling boats. At one time there were no less than 7 at my dock in little Charleston, WV. We had ours 15 years. It is a sporty boat that still gives you some of the big boat stuff. We did the whole 240/260 step up to the 280 and stopped there for 15 years. Now that my retirement is 2 years away we have finally made the move to a 320. Still the best design by SeaRay IMHO...(2002 to 2008 Sundancers)

I was curious how many were produced. Hope someone knows.

That is a huge difference between the 280 DA and 370 DA. Still curious how this relates to the total boats of each models sold.

I don't know how many were sold, but the fact that that particular 280DA was produced from 2001 to 2009 says a lot... that's a long time for Sea Ray to keep producing the same model. Meaning, a lot were being sold.

Interestingly enough, there was only one other boat that Sea Ray made (that I can think of off the top of my head), that was kept in the line-up as long. The 240SD was produced from 2000 to 2009. My guess would be that more of the 240SD's were sold than the 280DA - strictly because it was bow rider style, though. Another "tid-bit" concerning the 240SD... Sea Ray redesigned it in 2007 and called it a 260SD (the 240SD was also 26' long). But the new "260SD" didn't sell as well as the 240SD so Sea Ray kept BOTH 26' Sundecks in the line-up until they came out with ANOTHER 260SD in 2010 - which was much nicer - and finally eliminated the 240SD.

The complexity of any of the DA's would explain the post difference with the bow riders. I wish we had a general number of boats built to go from. It is puzzling as to why we do not. All the auto mfg tell you their yearly production by model.

Gonna be a while before my car thread gets up in that rarefied air.

Where do you find the information on total post? How about the 300 thread? How many views on that one? http://www.clubsearay.com/index.php?threads/300-sundancer-questions.458/

300 Sundancer questions 1,490 replies, 356,567 views.

If you start at the Forum home -> Sea Ray Boats -> Sport Cruisers, most of the "officials" appear there. You will see a column for replies and views (on a PC running Windows anyway). You can sort by Views and it will bring the big ones to the top.

I'd wager a guess on the popularity (independent of actual production #'s) of that thread - could it be that the 280 represents the biggest boat "many/most" people think they can trailer when they start shopping for a towable cruiser?

Most of us are from the USA here...and what's more American than "bigger is better"? Find the absolute towing limit of yer trusty 1986 Ford F250 with 213,000 miles on her and we'll start boat shopping there :)

Just a thought....

Also, a lot of us owned 280’s at some point. I for one click the 280 thread every now and then to see what questions haven’t been answered in the first 300 pages....

May well be.

That is awesome. I too will likely check the 270 DA thread from time to time.
