Some friends have a kick butt stereo system on their boat that they connect and play music from their phones via Bluetooth. It sounds great. Is that a better sound than wired from the headphones jack?

My phone connects to my aftermarket bluetooth adapter perectly uptoabout 40’ away. The sound quality is great.

Distance and physical partitions can effect BT connectivity, but once connected, BT is typically better these days, then 3.5mm head phone jack.

Same boat, so might be applicable.

When I had my sound system installed, I had the source unit moved from inside the cabin to the helm area. On my previous boat it was down below, and I sometimes ran into issues controlling it via BT. Older system, older phone - so maybe that was partially to blame.

With it on the deck of my 3870, I have zero issues if I'm below or anywhere on the boat. We have a large slip area, and I can control the BT from anywhere up to about 100' away with the remote as I leave the phone on the boat.

The music is crystal clear. I also watch football, via my Dish app, and the audio runs via BT through the boat sound system.....sounds great.

Thanks! Were you able to use the existing speaker wire?

I "probably" could have, but given it was a full job replacing everything, and then adding new components on top of filling the existing holes - I had them pull all new wire.

The old wiring that came out was the speaker wire from days of yore - two skinny wires in see through plastic. The new speaker wire installed was the heavy duty variety in white circular flexible tubing. It gave me a warm, fuzzy feeling.

Given the investment in components, labor, and the fact the source unit was being moved to its new location, it was a no brainer from my perspective to match with modern wiring.

Thanks for the input.

From what I’ve read, usb gives the best quality. I have noticed that my iphone distorts a little if bluetooth volume is at max on phone.
