Cummins QSM 11's 635 HP
Hello, everyone, I am about to winterize my raw water system on my 480 Motor yacht which has Cummins QSM11 636 HP engines. I am trying to get an idea how antifreze I'll need for each engine. I appreciate all feedback. Thanks

I use 9 gallons per engine. Probably overkill but that's what it takes to get it thru the mufflers and out the back enough to make me feel comfy. The strainers hold 1.5 gallons each.

I agree with QT, iirc, I used to use 10 gallons per engine for my QSM11’s. I use 20 gallons per engine for my MAN900CRM’s.

This is interesting. I just winterized my 2003 510 and 16 gallons of Antifreeze never made it to the exhaust port. However, the mufflers were full of antifreeze when I drained the mufflers. However, my 510 has a main exhaust line that goes out the bottom of the boat near the front of the bilge. It seams like the back exhaust port is just to show that water is flowing. Has anyone else had this happen to them?

The back exhaust port is there when boat isn't on plane. When on plane most of the exhaust goes to the underwater port. Helps reduce noise.

Out of the water antifreeze will go to underwater port as it's downhill. No worries, as there is likely no water in upper port anyway.

Different engine, but may still apply. On my QSC 8.3 I drained the raw water from the aftercooler and heat exchanger by removing the zincs. Pulling an oil cooler zinc drained the heat exchanger. I did this to minimize mixing and dilution of the the antifreeze.

I used about 10 gallons.

I use 10gall for each motor as well. I drain the heat exchanger and after cooler as well as the muffler of all water before I run antifreeze through the engines so that what’s left in it is just antifreeze. With the mufflers being fiberglass I don’t want to risk anything cracking in them from having diluted antifreeze in them.
