So I understand we don't have a Sea Ray but we are planning on new canvas next spring and wife wants black. I'm not sure it will look ok with black but she insists it will. I edited the same photo in my signature and made the canvas black but that is very hard to duplicate.

Any thoughts or opinions? Anyone have a white/tan boat with a black top? Maybe a late 90's DA with the tan/gold stickers?

There is a 2007 Four Winns 318 Vista that is pewter/white with black canvas. It looks very good but does have black accents on the hull. This was the factory setup. She likes this so thinks the black will look good on ours.

Big expense to not like it afterwards.

Last Summer on vacation, while planning our new boat order, we were in a marina and saw 2 tan / white boats docked next to each other. One had tan canvas and the other black. The tan was dull and the black was stunning.

Later that day we were partying in a boat with a "toast tweed" bimini on a real hot sunny day and thought it was hot underneath. Then we went back to our Whaler with the black sunbrella top and liked it better.

Our new boat just came in. The hull is tan, and the interior fiberglass and bottom are white. The seats are medium brown with black trim. The rubrail and windshield is black. All canvas is black. The OB Merc is black, as is the trailer.

The brown / white / black combo looks awesome. But that's just our opinion. The black option was the wife's decision. Women always have a better eye for fashion....LOL.

Your wife is 100% correct. Mine is silmiliar to your color. Very popular combo with the black, but I may be partial. ;) Some people say the black canvas radiates more heat in very warm climates. I wouldn't think it would be an issue where your located. That said, Ive never had any issues with it and it's pretty darn hot here. Also doesn't seem to show the dirt. Good luck and remember "Happy Wife...Happy Life"

We had a tan Sundeck with Black canvas and Bimini. I wouldn't hesitate to go with that ...it will be a nice change. As far as the hot thing ...we have navy and people think it's black it's so dark and it's not an issue... Maybe in Florida it might make a difference.... But not up here.
My vote is go black..

I've had black canvas for the esthetic reason, brown on a boat that was delivered from the factory with brown, and light grey again for the esthetic appearance. What I learned was the heat radiating into the cockpit made all of the dark colors very uncomfortable to live with in our hot Michigan climate. Although the heat was welcome when running in cold Lake Michigan waters, in the slip, it was miserable. We have settled for white which, with a hardtop, means our A/C can keeps things very livable. We have used mostly Sunbrella fabrics. Some people will say white is hard to keep clean, but that has not been our experience. We wash it at a laundromat after the pollen season is over and it looks as good as new. Our drop curtain is the original white canvas that was installed at the factory. It has had good care and looks nearly brand new. You should at least consider white Sunbrella before buying the black.

Another advantage of white over black. White is the same color as most bird droppings.

The only opinion that really matters here is your wife's. just sayin'

Those pics all look good. Maybe she is right...lol. White is out. Our 1986 DA had the factory white 'vinyl' or whatever it was. We replaced that with navy blue Sunbrella. The heat wasn't much worse so not too worried about that. I'd sweat even if it was white...lol.

So looks like she might be right.

They are always right!!!... Why are you fighting it?.... See you learned that on a forum too :)

Oh...and ask sbw1 how silly his TT would look with a white convertible top :)

I recently had all new canvas made. White boat, black bottom paint, burgandy dash. I was thinking about black or burgandy. My canvas maker suggested sunbrella ember. I believe its a new color. It is sort of a combination of black and burgandy but still a solid color. Thats what I went with and I really like it. I think it would also look great with a tan boat.

Having said all that , i think black looks great with tan.

According to the canvas company I use in Florida, Black will actually have a longer service life than any other color canvas.

Yep Black always looks good...clean, dirty, old, new...looks Black. Ages really well.

If you are going with a canvas shop to make you new canvas, get on their schedule now. Long wait times in the Spring.

My house is white. The house next door is dark brown. The bird spots on my house are brown, and next door they are white. They ALL show up. I just can't figure out how the birds have different color excrement and they know which house to poop on.

As far as colors and heat, I'm not so sure that the radiation thing plays all that big a part. Our patio used to have a drop down sunbrella "shade" on the sunny side. I made it myself and it was white to match the house. It got damaged in a storm and I replaced it with a black one (I got a cheap remnant at a local shop). The black makes the patio much more comfortable. My theory is that the black hides the vision of the sun. With the white one the patio always seemed brighter.

I will admit that I just do not have the love for the pewter hull. There is a SR 40 DA right behind my slip, it has the pewter/black combination and I just never felt it compliments each other. I do like the pewter hull for boats that do not need canvas, as I really do not love any of the canvas color options with pewter.
