Anyone have one of these and your thoughts about it ? New boat we’re in the process of getting has one . It looks like it’s a great unit - please share your experiences.

Thanks Steve

I can’t speak to that unit specifically......but I have Garmin 7212s and love them. I was at the Garmin booth for about an hour at FLIBS last week, playing with the 7612, and their stuff is just amazing. The route autoguidance works really well. And their autopilots are great too. I also talked to Simrad.....and I think the only thing they do better is display native Vesselview data. The Garmin will display N2K engine data.....but the Simrad actually displays the data like you’re looking at a Vesselview. You could literally make your 19” Simrad into a big Vesselview....which is kinda cool.

I did in my 400DA; really liked it. Touch screen gets hot if in the sun; really hot; Garmin replaced it once because of the temperature. I had it fully integrated with the boat's engines, Garmin HD radar, Autopilot, VHF / AIS, GPS, Fishfinder/depth sounder and a couple of GMI 20's. Going Garmin again in the boat I have now.

I have the 7610xsv (same unit, 2" smaller). I think it's a great unit. I've connected up my AiS receiver, a heading sensor, and my Fusion stereo. I especially enjoy being able to preplan from and mirror to my iPad. Chart updates are a breeze as well, using the ActiveCaptain app.

Have two of them.

Have gone through a learning curve with the touch screen part, but overall love the functionality.

Have not upgraded the software for the active captain integration yet, but will once I get back to FL.

Had a 7412 xsv on the Chaparral, with Garmin AutoPilot and GMI 20 Gauge + G2 Vision. It is the best integration I have seen so far. With G2 Vision it is really like touching the screen where you want to Go and let the Auto Pilot engage. Sure you will have to stay at the helm etc but you are a little less focus and able to enjoy more the people who are on the boat with you. Shadow drive let you take back control without fighting the auto pilot which is pretty cool. If I wasn't stuck with the Merc Auto Pilot I would have gone with Garmin again, unfortunately, it is a close system where Garmin only talk to… Garmin. You can't go wrong with this unit slick style and awesome features.
