Thoughts after first summer on a 400 after moving up from a 340

I think I'm going to have to go to Cedar Point next year just for a training session. Great job. Definitely getting a 741 or 2.

I'm not sure I'm qualified, but I'm willing to try! At the very least, I can share my routes. One of the things that's made me loyal to definitely-not-perfect Garmin is the Homeport application. I've relied on it for many years create logically named waypoints and routes.

I don't think you can go wrong with a 741 or 742, but complicating your choice even further is the 74XX-76XX series now entering close-out. Deals on those are already showing up, and history suggests that the deals will only get better.

Wish List....
For us the boat is used days and nights at a time. I feel Searay could of made better use of the aft cabin. We dont use it as a sitting area it is all for sleeping. I have been thinking of taking out the couch/bed and the corner chair and converting to just one nice bed.

I too think the rear lounge type area is a total waste, and would love to see that area converted to a proper bedroom.

Let me know if you move forward with that one

This thread is making me want a bigger boat. Damn it guys ...we've only had the 340 for a year! :p

M Prod, I hear ya. We have only had our 480DB for 3 season now and I am constantly looking at nice 580DB's. As my father told me, you always have to have a goal in mind or else you are just spinning your wheels.

We've had our 2005 390da for one full season now. We love it and are super happy we made the jump from the 320. However, mama bear is already eyeing a 2000 510 at the marina.

I do not support this decision at all..:D

I'll follow Brent and quote my father. "Never be the richest man at the cemetery"

Well...one upshot is that the longer you stay in the 340 the more you'll appreciate the bigger boat when you do finally get it :)

Yes, and I mean in reality the 340 is the perfect boat for us ...right now. And it was a MASSIVE upgrade from our Bayliner 245 (terrible boat and we almost quit boating over it). But yes ...now that the 340 has completed it's mission of getting "Mama Bear" to fall in love with boating, SHE is actually the one pointing to larger boats/boats with closed cabins for winter cruising, etc. As stated above ...it's good to have goals. :)

We moved up from the 270 DA, it was a pretty big move to something pretty equal to a SR 40ish DA. We just do not have the time, money, and energy to change boats all the time. You just made a big move, relax and enjoy it awhile. There will be something on the journey you will love in a few years.

We moved from a 300 DA with curtains on the cabins up to a 400 EC with doors on the cabins, and what an improvement.

As mush as we love the 400 EC I can see a 510 with a hard top in our future!

A back cabin with door and a second head are a nice feature to send your quests back to.

Maybe I could call my buddy over at Temptation and we could get a two-fer deal on the 510 and the 540.;):D;):D
I love that 540.
Deal, I work with Paul too so that's easy

I know the owners of that 540(if it's the same one), haha. That boat is so clean it's not even funny. If it needs it..it gets it. That's how he handles that boat.

Wait! That space in the back is for sitting or sleeping? I thought it was a garage!!! It's where I keep my tools, we put the canvas down there, keep the water toys down there, and other junk. I store the cockpit TV down there when it isn't up. I never thought about sitting in there. :)
