Thanks to all for responding. Question to those who have used the Spectrum Gel Patch Paste. Is it a one step process or do I need to learn how to and use a surfacing agent (as stated in the description on Spectrum's website)? I have no experience in gel coat repair outside of paying others who do to fix on other boats. Again, thank you.

If you are working on a Pewter hull from the first year or so Sea Ray used Pewter, be aware that there were some bonding problems with the early gelcoat, enough so that they changed formulations for the gelcoat several times. My advice is not asssume gray is pewter, or that pewter is pewter for that matter. To be safe, contact SR Customer Service and get the exact gelcoat color they used on your boat .

I used the Spectrum kit on a pretty deep scratch on my boat. It was very easy. I did not use any surfacing agent. I cleaned out the scratch and beveled the edges with a Dremel tool, wiped it all down with acetone, taped off the area being repaird then followed their instructions to mix and apply the gelcote, then wet sand, polish and wax.

I called SeaRay and they were very helpful, pulled the build sheet on my boat and sent me a copy and told me exactly which Spectrum color to order.

If you google Spectrum Gelcoate repair, there are plenty of videos and articles.

I have to look hard to find the repair now.

I called Sea Ray to get the exact match to my gray hulled 2005 420 DA. The code for 2005 420 DA models is 5799E90028 and this is a Valspar color. I was told if you order from whomever, to note Valspar in your description. Other years and other models may have and probably have different codes according to the factory. They were very helpful.

Hope this helps others in this forum and thanks to all for your excellent guidance.
