On and off for the best part of nine months I've been scouring the internet and chasing my tail trying to find a replacement for the failed 0 degree tilt depth/temp sensor that interfaces with the Smartcraft system in my boat.

I found and provided old redundant part numbers to my usual local Merc dealer who said he found one and imported it in from the US. After the two months it took to get here I was greeted with a 20 degree tilt version which I promptly sent back after he said there was only the one part number for these things. I was beginning to wonder if the 0 degree tilt version existed anymore :(.

As a last resort I sent a series of emails to potential suppliers in and out of Australia. First up another local Merc dealer said he had located one in the US. I was dubious but took the chance and again after the two months it took to get here I now have a 0 degree tilt version in my possession :D.

To assist other who may have the same trouble I've post pics of the two versions showing the part numbers. Note that when ordering you need the part number on box not the part numbers on the packets. Both come with the fuse kit, although I've only shown the fuse kit in the 0 degree tilt version of pics.

Anyway, hope this helps someone else down the track.

Firstly the 20 degree tilt version:

I you access to the bilge better than mine? I’ve looked at replacing my electronics, and the one catch I have right now is I can’t get to any surface in the bilge to install a new transducer. I’ve tried reaching the old transducer and the old speedo, I can touch them, that is about it.

Access in my bilge isn't too bad. I choose my wars though - have the seawater impellers by my merc tech. I could probably do them myself - I do everything else myself.

I think we spoke months ago about this. If all you can find are 12 degree or 20 degree then just get one of them. It will have absolutely no affect on performance in shallow depths.

I went through the same issue earlier this year with an Airmar. I was sent the wrong tilt degree on three different occasions by two different retailers. We determined that they must all be labeled incorrectly in the warehouses.

Hi Jim, yes you did respond to my email - thank you very much for the quick response and for the lead you gave me. I however found a local dealer that could assist. From all reports the 0 degree is almost extinct so the 12 or 20 will have to do.

I do some fishing off the swim platform so prefer to have the accuracy in deeper water.
