It's listed at 2 channel amp, 120w 2 ohm stable. Currently currently there are 2 speaker connected to each channel. I'm assuming I'm pushing 30 watts per speaker?

I just bought a JL MX500/4. Should be a nice improvement if so.

Depends on if that 120W is peak or RMS and if the speakers are 4 ohm and in parallel.
Huh..I just found the manual in my bag....The speakers are connected in parallel, 2 per side. So I must be at 20W RMS. The way it is now sounds pretty loud. WOW... this should be a nice upgrade.

That will be a HUGE upgrade, as long as your speakers can handle it.

That's good. Reading the specs on the new amp it's only 55w RMS at 12.5v per channel. I was hoping for more. Says 70w at 14.3v. The speakers are JL MX650's.

JL amps often out perform their published spec. That amp is a good spec for those speakers. Should sound very good.

Well I installed both amps yesterday. I was happy with the SUB amp, but the speaker amp had a high pitched buzz sound. I tried everything from grounds,RCA, Power ect..With no fix. I ended up bringing back to the dealer and they were able to duplicate it there, so it's a bad amp. When it was hooked up I was happy with the power, but felt I could get more out of the speakers. He said I could replace it or he would have to order a new one. Here is there site with what they carry, Any suggestions? I ended up paying
$298 out the door for it and really only want to spend like $100 more. That price was a 30% discount at the time. I think they have 20% black friday now.

Any feedback on this one?

Out those listed, the Kicker KXM400.2 come highly recommended, and will deliver 100W rms to each speaker. Just note, its not a pocket-amp like the MX and you will not have fade. It deserves 4ga power cabling as well.

This is a 2 channel amp right? 4 ohms per channel? I don't ever use the fade anyway. Just talked to the salesman. He has one in stock and will swap it out. Said it was a good amp also. If I add my 7.7s this year I'll just have to get another amp..lol. Or use my old 120x2 Clarion for now.

Did you consider a JL m700/5? Great amp for 4 speakers and a sub.

yes, its a 2 chnl, but with four 4 ohm speakers, each chnl will see a 2 ohm load. this = 200W rms x 2, for a net of 100W to each speaker.

Yes, its a great amp. Ive used a number of them.
It looks like that amp is discontinued and replaced with KXMA400.2. I'll make sure this is the amp I get. I think they have the other in stock.

Yes, the KXM model is retired and the KXMA is the current model. If paying retail or close to it, id want the current model. For a retired model, id look to be about 50% off retail.

That's what I thought. I'm going there today to make sure he doesn't get me the retired one. It's being sent from his other store.

As long as the price reflects its retired status, go for it. I would not hesitate to use the previous version. the enhancements in the new KXMA are subtle and would not be noticed in a sound quality or build quality difference. The biggest difference, the KXMA now has a clip indicator light behind the gain dial. It flashes when the gain hits a level that the signal clips. Great tuning aid.

Said he would give it to me for $279. The new version for $349. I guess I'll go with the retired still 2 year warranty right.
