Frank/Everyone,

Hope everyone remains safe. Looks like it is pretty close to TI there where it is making landfall.

We got hit.... hard. We live just East of downtown Panama City. We lost about 10 large trees. One came down on top of the house. We have water damage throughout 3/4 of our living space. Our dock is gone. Our landscaping retaining wall on the beach is gone.

Our community is devastated. Our marinas are trashed. Boats are stacked upon one another. The ambiance of our little community is gone.

I usually get hauled out at Treasure Island/Marine Max location. The surge was forecast at 9 to 12. That would float my boat on a rack there, so I moved my boat to a small yacht basin which is heavily protected by land on all sides. With winds over 150mph, I had some canvas damage. I had intended on replacing that section anyway. It was original.

The acrylic glass on the bridge can shatter. It didn’t, but the bottoms shifted over about two inches. The tinted plexiglass on the bottom of the bridge enclosure separated in a couple of areas. I will have to reinstall those sections of the bridge. Shell’s Island II was very, very lucky.

We are safe, but it will take years of hard work to get life back to “normal.”

Glad to hear from you John - thanks for checking in...

Glad to hear that you are safe and sorry for the damage you did experience. Sounds like the boat did pretty well considering that kind of wind. Good luck and hope it's a quick recovery. Prayers for everyone in the area.

.
Thanks heavens you and your family survived; and I hope the rebuilding goes smooth and fast so that this natural disaster is a memory, much, MUCH sooner than later!

I cannot imagine the burden of the stress (already let alone to come while normal life remains upended) but I sincerely hope getting through it all (and you will) brings you and your loved ones (and your community) CLOSER together on the other end.

Family , each other, is what matters; thank heavens you still have Each Other

My father lived in Panama City beach for a little over 20 years, he just passed this May. He would have been so devastated to see the destruction that came with this hurricane. I spent most of my life visiting my father there so we still have a lot of friends on the beach and have been checking in with everyone to make sure they are all ok. It’s so depressing to see what has happened to such beautiful part of Florida. My prayers are with everyone affected by Hurricane Michael.
