Official Cummins QSC-500 Thread

My first time was last spring. My mains took exactly 5 gal each and the gen exactly 1 gal-all done with prefilled new filters. I used some 2.5 gal containers I got from work to put the used oil in. I just figured it would be eaiser to lift out of the bilge. It all went off perfect!

The filters will take about 3/4 of a gallon each to prefill. The engines will take just under 4 gallons to get to the low mark on the dipstick - that's about where you want to be, try to stay below the halfway mark at all times.

In a 44DA the generator is 1 gallon (same Rotella T4 or Valvoline Blue 15-w40 as the mains), the transmissions are 6.35 qts of Rotella T1 SAE30

Its easiest if you bring two empty 5 gallon buckets, but you need at least one to get the first engine empty, then fill and you have another empty bucket.

Once you have done it once try to see if you can dump your used oil and keep the buckets to use for next year, then you'll always have two available.

If you have the Reverso Oil PUmp system, you may want to pick up an extra impeller. Cheap insurance. Also, when you go to turn the Reverso Pump on, and it doesn't work, check the breaker panel in the engine room. Best practice is to leave that breaker in the OFF position.

I do have Reverso but not sure of the model no. Do you know which Reverso Model we have? Or the Impellar Part number?

Thanks -

I don't remember the part number. I have the luxury walking the bad part down to the parts desk and picking up a new one. $25.

I buy the oil in 2.5 gal containers. I save two. I pump one engine out into those two, then refill that engine, then use those two newly emptied containers to pump out the other engine. Then I recycle the oil and save the two for next time.

They have handles and are very easy to carry in pairs.

Just moved up from a 340DA with gasoline Merc's to a 44DA with QCS 500's so thanks for the thread, I'm getting quite an education. I'm having difficulty finding the "S" shaped hose that goes between the engine and the vacuum regulator. I was able to find a picture of one but haven't found one for sale. Does anyone have an idea of the part number or name?

Try Tony and his team at sbmar.com They can help you. I think they are one of the best operations in the boating industry.

Totally agree that your best bet is to call sbmar, they are fantastic resources!

You can also register one or both of your serial numbers on Cummins Quickserve website and get access to the full parts diagram.

Thanks, Bubbafrsh and swaterhouse. I did find it using the engine diagram on Quickserve. Now that I know what it is called and have a part # to search I found it is readily available. For anyone that wants to know it is #3971065 and is about $200.00

Mjresq4 I did the same jump this year from a 2006 340 to a 2006 44. If I can help with anything let me know. I've done quite a few maintenance updates and upgrades already. Best of luck with yours..

Thanks, villain style I will definitely be reaching out for help. This is my first diesel and these QSC's are very different from the gas Merc's I am accustomed to.

I am in the process of purchasing a 2007 44 Sundancer. Survey is scheduled this week what should I expect to see regarding wide open rpm and what is the average speed expected at full throttle. Any input as to what to seek out during the survey is greatly appreciated. Thanks

Do you have Cummins Techs scheduled also for engine analysis during sea trial? If not you should seriously consider it...

I had 2-Cummins techs on board for the entire sea trial. Computers hooked up to each engine. I got a full report with the printouts. Don’t forget full fluid analysis on both mains and the gen.
