New to me 2011 520DB

Congratulations and if you don’t have EGT “Exhaust Gas Temperatures” monitoring system ya might want to look into them as QSM11S are prone to exhaust leaks around the manifolds. Visit SBMAR.com Tony Athens site on Cummins QSM11M.

GT II headed South to KW after Thanksgiving for the winter at Stock Islsnd Village Marina again this winter!

What an awesome upgrade. Congrats!

I hope you got some video of plowing through those big seas.

I don’t have a video of the really bad parts because once it got really bad it was dark and I was just trying to keep the boat pointed in the right direction. This video is right before sunset. We were still in 3-4ft seas at that point. They built up much larger once they started pushing up agains Buzzards Bay and Vineyard Sound.

Ignore the narration, I was sending it to my broker, he had asked how we were doing

You will love the 52-great layout, lots of storage, and plenty of room for parents and kids to spread out. My wife and I loved the bridge-with heat, AC, SAT TV and stereo it is a wonderful place to hang out. You've already experienced the way the boat will plane, and stay on plane, at relatively low speed thanks to the torque of the diesels. This makes for a far more comfortable ride in poor conditions. The 52 is also very responsive to input on the trim tabs--putting the bow down in head seas and slowing down makes for a fairly comfortable ride. My only real complaint about the boat is the placement of the sump box in the passageway to the master stateroom....a real PITA when your kids dump the remnants of their breakfast cereal in the galley sink. As soon as your sump box pump fails, you'll have grey water overflow running aft and causing the emergency bilge pump next to the washer and dryer to begin pumping and causing a helm alarm. It is also a tough place to get to and clean up the grey water overflow once the sump box pump is fixed. On the 58 DB, Sea Ray put the sump box in the bilge, just aft of the engine room bulkhead. If it overflows it runs into the bilge sump. One other thing to consider--the 52 makes one hell of a hole in the water coming on plane, and she throws a lot of wake compared to your 34DA--I became very conservative running in the Potomac Channel; even when raft ups were well off the channel I got in the habit of coming off plane to prevent damage to rafted boats. I also had to run my 52 with only one engine in gear in no wake zones. With both engines in gear I was doing 7 knots and throwing a wake that attracted the attention of our law enforcement friends. Great boat-congratulations, and enjoy!

We rerouted the galley sink drain on our boat directly overboard by installing a thru hull fitting We then ran the sink drain line to it. It works great and avoids the sump box issues Skip mentioned.

We love hanging out on the bridge too. The boat can soak up a crowd and is extremely comfortable to hang out on. You have the newer larger cockpit and galley design which we wish we had! Enjoy!

I don’t have the EGT sensor but I plan on sticking to Tony’s fuel curve. I have to take

It doesn’t have a EGT sensor that I know of but I plan to follow Tony’s fuel curve to keep it happy. I think I need to take some pitch out of the props, I am still gathering data.

Congrats and good luck! Were you able to sell the 340 this late in the season?

I sold it in 3 days, first buyer to look at it took it. Some luck and the boat was in great shape as well so that make it easier to sell.

I will look into dumping the kitchen sink drain overboard, sounds like a good upgrade to me. I really wanted the larger cockpit design which also comes with the the galley being raised 1 step so I had narrowed my search down to 2010+ boats. Not many to choose from but I think we found a good one. It needs some TLC to bring it back to 100% but nothing that can’t be corrected.

Beautiful boat! Congrats and good luck!
Can't wait to see her in person.
