40 sedan bridge forum

I want to know who the rocket scientist was that put the vacuum outlet under the table by the port wall... where no one can access it...
Yup. That's tough access. I finally quit using that one. Hose reaches entire boat from the one in the mid stateroom. And since the hose is stored right there, I now just use it 100 percent of the time.

Yes, I did vacuum the whole boat from the mid cabin. Need the extra length to get the cockpit carpet before she is pulled for the season. Hence the contortion act.

Hey Prosideus, On putting the heater in the bilge, what method did you use to close off the air vent to the ER, I assume they are the big louvers on the corners of the salon but could not see where they come out in the ER

I'm not allowed to run a vacuum, wife say I don't do it correctly, works out pretty good for me. She don't like the way I load a dishwasher either YEA!

When putting a heater in the ER to prevent freezing what is the best way to close up the air vents to prevent loosing heat. I understand there is a 120 volt receptacle down there but I haven't found it yet, I assume it will be close to the battery maintainer. Anybody got some ideas?

The factory did not put a 120v outlet in the engine room.

nothing is ever easy. thanks
I ran an extension cord from the battery compartment outlet, down through a gap in the back of the compartment and into the engine room. I keep it there permanently. Some have put outlets in the engine room by adding a breaker to the power panel and running wire into the engine room.

so I guess we can buy breakers to fit the panel from Sea Ray?

I bought an extreme ER heater, I just have to decide how I want to connect to power and how to close the air vents the easiest way

I bought foam and cut it to fit the vents from the outside and hold it there with small bungee cords.

Worked well last winter.

The battery selector compartment at the aft port side of the cockpit should have outlets. I have an extension cord from there fed through an opening down into the ER for the bilge heater. +1 on the foam. You can wedge it into the slits from the outside and it should be fine. I have had canvas sections made that snap over the vents.

Thanks for the responses, I was considering stuffing foam into the vents but without some one to collaborate the idea it would be something I would lay awake and worry about on a cold night, probably causing me to leave a warm house to drive to the marina at 2 in the morning

I am on Kentucky Lake/Tennessee River closer to Pickwick so pretty much same conditions, I believe I will do the same thing. That way on a pretty winder day I can take a little cruise. Thanks for the reply
We used to keep our boat at pickwick when we first bought it. If you are ever in Nashville, hit me up. Happy to talk boat any day.

In my 400DB my next project is to upgrade my autopilot. Currently a RayPilot 650 with Course100 computer. Going to stay with Raymarine, and the Evolution AutoPilot product as all my other navigation gear is newer Raymarine SeaTalkNG. Has anyone else completed this upgrade on this boat? I have alot of the wiring changes figured out, but am a bit mystified with the type of hydraulic steering system that came from the factory. I can see the rudder indicator on the port side near the transom, and the hydraulic ram on the starboard side. I wonder if there is a hydraulic pump, and where it might be located. Any insights into this type of upgrade would be very much appreciated.

Thanks,

Dave

Try loooking port side aft of the holding tank in the ER, mounted high.

I run a short extension cord from the dc switch door into the engine room. Then hook up my heaters. I split a couple of noodles and stuff them into the vents.

Prosideus, thanks for the tip on where the hyrdraulic pump might be located. I will check it out next weekend.

I'm starting to plan an electronics upgrade of the original 2001 vintage Raymarine equipment and would love to see/hear what others have done. Feel free to email me (kurtlentsch@gmail.com) any pictures or details of what you went with (I'm leaning towards RayMarine again) and I would love to hear what others have done and how the laid out their helms. Thanks in advance!

Mine is a 98. Not sure which dash layout you have. I ditched the original Raymarine radar for a 12" Lowrance HDS with chart plotter, side scan sonar, and backup camera. Next step is to lose the Raymarine GPS/Loran and drop in a 9" Lowrance HDS that links with the 12 for a second screen.

Thinking ahead to next month when I have to winterize my 98 400 Sedan Bridge. Does anyone with the Cat 3116 remember how many gallons of AF it took to do all three motors and the hvac system? Planning on blowing out the fresh water system as I have done in the past with my 340 and rv.
