so I was engaging in one of my hobbies... looking at boats on yachtworld that I fantasize for my "next one", then looking at videos of them on youtube. so im examining a nice 420 aft cabin... then they start showing the "laundry room" and I say WTF was searay thinking with this and who really need a dedicated laundry room that takes up a good amount of real estate in a boats design???? they could have put a nice dinette nook in there next to the galley and freed up the salon space. I just cant fathom why you would design that! I guess you could rip out that washer and make a nice office out of that room , but with a laptop , I would rather set it up in the nice salon if I had to...

Sea Ray made that space a laundry room or the other option was a single berth stateroom.

This was the same as the 370 aft cabin of the same vintage.

I would guess that a person inclined to use that boat as a floating condo would probably appreciate the laundry room option.

The 420 AC is the next boat that we are looking at as well. I would like the laundry room as it's just the wife and I and we plan to cruise a bit.
A couple people that I have talked to have just gutted that room and finished it the way that suits them.

How would you like to replace the washer/"drier" in that boat when it wears out?

Someone I talked to about these washer/dryer combos said it was a disassembly/reassembly job on their boat to get it in and out.

so another design aspect that has me scratching my head - the raised dinette in the forward port corner of the salon, has this drop leaf table.... yet there is no possible way to sit on those other sides of the table! do those searay stools have seating surfaces that raise? that would be the only option.

when I lived aboard a 42 trawler that had one , it was the worst... I never used it. was able to muscle it out , but wasn't fun. I turned the locker into nice closet space and removed about 150lbs from the boat. they are nice in theory.. like a beach wedding

I'm not sure what they were thinking with the drop leaf, but they are an oddity from what I can tell. Most of the 420's that I've seen have the solid table.

And I've never seen one where the drier actually dries clothes. They run forever.
