It's a little early to debate waxes and soaps, but I took three pix of my boat after it had been in the water for 6 months with no exterior maintenance to the gel coat other than a weekly wash with water containing a shot glass of Woody Wax Ultra Pine boat soap. The boat was polished with 3M finesse and waxed with Flagship before launch in April. I think it looks pretty good since it has not yet been detailed for the 2019 season. Pix were taken last week. I plan on doing the same routine next year. Boat soap brand is almost more important than the wax we use. Woody clearly removes dirt without removing wax.

I use the same soap and my boat always passes the "10 foot stare" test.

Can they get those boats any closer together? Tough to work on the hull!

Nice... I'm gonna get some woody ...lol

I agree. My only complaint with this marina. Fortunately our boat has enough flare to it you can actually reach about 98% of the hull. Finish is done in the spring when boats start to be moved outside. Has not really been an issue but requires some "communications" with the staff at the right time before launch.

How does it do (Woodys) with black streaks/fender marks? I wash my boat during the season regularly with a wash wax combo and the water beads for the entire season without needing to apply more wax, but those dang fender rub/black streaks. They're light, but definitely noticeable ..especially in the shade.

+1 for Woody's Wax Ultra Pine boat soap. My boat was detailed in April also and nothing but weekly washes during the season and here's a pic from late Sept. I don't have any pics with it out of the water because I'm still in....:D

I have had two well known detailers in our area tell me to stop buying expensive wash and go to Turtle Wax Wash/Wax.

They are using it exclusively and say it does not strip wax and I must say it leaves a great shine!

A professional marine boat cleaning service in my area also uses Zip Wax. The guy two boats down from me has them come out every week to wash his boat and it looks fantastic all season long.

It works really well. The first thing I do when washing the boat is hose everything done with the nozzle set to the highest force. Bird dirt stains usually wash right off without scrubbing. Most other stains, same thing. A soft brush on a stick takes care of the rest. Remember, Woodys has wax in it so it leaves a shiny surface when dried off.

I asked a crew member who was washing a hundred foot yacht on the main dock in Harbor Springs what he was using for soap. He told me he was using a cheap liquid soap with detailer wax added to it. So apparently, detailer wax, whatever that is, makes some of these products work. His boat looked perfect. I believe people who are having to rewax boats in mid season in the Great Lakes are clearly using the wrong cleanling products assuming they did a competent job of spring detailing at the beginning of the season. Florida and other intense climates may call for different measures, but even there you need to start with wax sparing soaps.

my favorite.....

I’m sure woodys wax is good stuff I wanted to share my experience with 3M perfect-it.
Boat was compounded last year by the co. That painted the boat using step #2 and then 3M wax , I reapplied 3M wax in May of this year and it looks fantastic still. I only use the 3M wax in the line up it is by far the easiest wax I have ever used.
They’re soap will not remove wax.

Joe, it's time to put your boat away and wax your skis or tune up the snowmobile.

I put strips of isinglass on the rub rail to act as a drip edge. Haven't had those streaks all year.

I don't do the winter stuff. I know I'm living in a bad place to hate cold and snow as much as I do, but the summers here are worth it. I have a few of my winter activities planned already. November = Fort Lauderdale(FLIBS), January= Cruise, End of February=Florida and the Keys (which usually goes into March) and we'll see if that is enough sun to last till April when the boat goes back in.:D:D
