Looking for an instructor or someone seasoned behind a twin screw boat that wouldn't mind providing some guidance.

Boat is already on Lake Lewisville. Just looking for a captain to help me fill in the gaps and improve my skill set.

Feel free to reply and or PM me.

Thanks!

I don’t know anyone who will go that far but I know a great captain here in Kemah if you wanted to come here for a couple of days.

Who is the captain you recommend down there? Seems somewhat out of the way to travel 5 hours for some instruction, but I am open to ideas.

Thanks.

Michael Zapp. He is very good and willing to do this type of instruction. I agree its not close, but I didn't see any responses near you. I'm happy to take you out as well, although I don't have my Captain's License yet.

I'm on Lake Lewisville, and am a Captain. Well, an aircraft Captain - but I've been boating with twins for about 20 years - wouldn't mind assisting with anything. I'm slipped over at Eagle Point.

New to the lake, or just a new to you boat? If new to the lake, quite a few places you have to be wary of...stumps, both marked and unmarked primarily.

I'm in Europe now, but will be home Friday.

Thanks Josh. Let me keep this in mind.

What part of the lake are you on? What kind of boat?

One option is to swing by the MarineMax office at Pier 121. Ask them for some recommendations, nice guys.

Hey thanks for responding. I'm not new to boating, but I'm new to both this boat and this lake. The concepts are are there but at times I'm missing the ability to connect the dots likely due to being distracted by my 4 year old on the boat. I typically learn best by visually watching something, but I still can't seem to find a large group of boats to watch in order to get the repetition down.

Do you remember when you first started boating with a single stern drive and the light went off when you realized you could provide thrust in reverse and by turning the wheel the opposite way to either spin the boat or bring it closer to the dock? That epiphany moment has yet to happen with this boat. More than likely just need some more practice and some instruction.

I was up at Eagle point the other week checking things out. I will likely be on the water at Pier 121 Fri/Sat if the weather holds out. If not this weekend, whenever works best for you. More than willing to compensate your for your time. I will PM you my number.

Thanks again.

I'm at Pier 121. Twin screw Cruisers Yachts 3575 with OAL just about 40'.

No worries, and no compensation required. I received your PM, and will give you a holler when I get back from Europe - probably late Friday afternoon or Saturday morning. I'm over on Eagles Nest at Eagle Pt, and we can work out how to get together. Being new to the lake, I'd highly suggest you get a proper paper chart so I can show you areas to be wary of - there are plenty of them. The marina store should have them for 7 or 8 bucks, money well spent. I had a new Garmin 942xs installed in my 3870, and it's awesome - but the paper chart has been incredibly helpful - especially when learning the lake.

Excellent advice.

I looked at a 3870 as well. They are beautiful boats but I couldn't find one in my price range! Looking forward to meeting up. Thanks.
