I'm just going through as much as I can when the engine comes out. Another item that is hard to get to is the fuel cooler. Think I should change it while it's out? The engine has 11 years / 285hrs of fresh water on it and 3 years/ 130hrs of salt water.

Fuel cooler is all copper, should be ok, just like a heat exchanger except there is no gaskets/end caps.

Without an engine number we can only guess what cooler he has. 2 or 3 they both come out without pulling an engine.

2004, 8.1 in my signature. All the same. Only one Serial OM319042

Looks to be a CF2, so like Subline says, it's all copper with no problem parts.

Only questionable part on those is the pressure regulator bolted to its top. Made out of cast aluminum and very easily corroded if it has had a lot of salt water on it..

Good point, and a new Airtex E11004 fuel pump for around $80 wouldn't hurt. Just did both of those items myself on my 1999.
