40 sedan bridge forum

The new muffler gets rid of engine noise out of the exhaust port. Now sounds kinda like a faint fan blower. However the clackty clack of the engine through the cockpit floor is so dominant that I found quieting the exhaust is irrelevant relative to sitting in the cockpit. My recommendation is to spend your money on other things. Even if the exhaust port made zero noise at all you'd still be as loud in the cockpit.

I have been on other boats where you could not hear the generator at all outside. They had two differences. first, they exhausted underwater and second, they located the generator under the cabin floor. However they were just as loud inside the cabin as ours is in the cockpit

I sold my loved Sedan Bridge 400 yesterday. I have steered the new owner to this forum and told him about the useful info that is here for all. I moved up to a Sedan Bridge 480 a couple months ago and loving it just as much as the 400. Thanks everyone for all the valuable information over the years. Your knowledge made me a better boat owner.

I am not leaving the forum, just checking two forums now. The 400 and 480 pages.

Too bad on the genny muffler swap out with the diesel.
I did the added inline vs the 2 stage swap out. Love how quiet it is. Raft up friends can’t believe it’s on. It’s probably much quieter in the cockpit area since it’s gas instead of diesel. Here’s a quick video of it running taken this past Saturday.

Does anyone know where I can gt the glass platten for the microwave? Mine is missing. I have the plastic ring with wheels just no glass to put stuff on.

Did you find it ? I have to replace my microwave as I’m converting to 240v. ( I’m based in Australia ) If it’s the same model ( Panasonic Genius Premier 1100w ) you can have it. I can post it. All I ask in return is the secret to remove the existing one. I’ve removed all the screws from underneath ... it a bit loose but it won’t slide out.

Keep working it, and double check you dont have another screw. The microwave and the wood pannel will slide out as one.

Got it out finally thanks, used the “wrong” side of a long wood saw to slide under the wood panel to check I had found all the screws ... that loosen it up... now to find a 240v replacement that fits ! I have the 120v cooktop, built in blender and the microwave if anyone wants them ... problem is they are in Sydney !

I did find a platen. Took some digging to find a part number but once I found it I was able to buy one on Amazon.

Anybody got any ideas on how to clear up the screens on the autopilot, loran/gps, etc. They appear to be hazy from exposure to the sun, can the fascias be replaced to correct this or is it the display below the fascia as well?

If it is the fascia and the once clear plastic lens over the display are replacements available?

Since I am still in year 1 of boat ownership, I'm looking for your thoughts on routine/annual engine/generator maintenance?

- Oil Changes
- Fuel filters
- Other?

What frequency is recommended for the above? Is it better to go by calendar months, engine hours, gallons diesel burned?

Thanks for your thoughts,
Bryan

I'm still in the 1st week of ownership so I'll be watching the replies as well. I am thinking it will be more of a amount of usage, engine hours, as opposed to calendar

I don't know about Cummins boats, but Cat powered service intervals are simple......:

oil and filter change, fuel filter change are 250 hours or annually, WHICH EVER COMES FIRST.

Westerbeke generators, 100 hours or annually, whichever comes first.

Saltwater cooled boats ashould have their cooling systems descaled about every 5 years; coolant should be changed every 5 years.

Try a headlight cleaner kit at most auto part places. It might work.

Cummins 6CTA oil, oil filter and fuel filter is 300 hrs or once per year, whichever is first
Onan 9.0 Kubota is 200 hrs or once per year.
Because I have done some extended cruising, I have racked up some high hours inside a years time and change my fuel filters based on vacuum readings. I change them at 5 in.Hg
sometimes they go 300 hrs sometimes they don't make it.

Any thoughts on putting an engine room heater in the ER and a electric/oil type radiator heater in the hall between the heads and just keeping the minimum temperature at about 40 degrees instead of winterizing? My first winter with the 400DB is coming soon!

Thanks, I have used that on my sky boat and it works on the faded gel coat, I will give it a shot and let you know how it works out

We are in Middle TN and I put a bilge heater in the ER with the ER vents sealed from the outside, and have two radiator heaters for the cabin-one in the forward stateroom and one in the galley. These radiators have mechanical switches, which is very important. If you have a power outage, electronic switches do not come back on when the power is restored. I also have the radiators heater plugged into temperature detectors, so they turn on the when the inside temp gets to around 40 degrees and shuts off around 55, if memory serves me correctly.

Our lake does not freeze over winter, so that acts as a thermal protection in a way for the bottom of the boat and the ER, at least that is my thinking.

I am on Kentucky Lake/Tennessee River closer to Pickwick so pretty much same conditions, I believe I will do the same thing. That way on a pretty winder day I can take a little cruise. Thanks for the reply

I want to know who the rocket scientist was that put the vacuum outlet under the table by the port wall... where no one can access it...
