Official 215 Express Thread

I don't think so. It's a single switch. I have 2 trim tab switches on the lower left of steering wheel that control the left and right tabs.

I'll grab a picture of the switch this weekend.

That will turn on the bow nav lights with anchor light, or anchor light alone. It's a 3 position switch.[/QUOTE]

that is correct...the 3 way switch operates the bow/nav lights in the forward position and the anchor light in the rear position...the center position is 'off'....

Thanks Cliff, I don't know how I missed that!
Well, I don't use the factory depth sounder, it looks like it hasn't worked in a long time.
On a side note, I just got a Lowrance Hook 9.

What is the beam on a 215 EC?
Mine is in storage and I need to reserve a slip.

new to this site, so please bear with me......looking at a sea ray 215............1998........price a little high, but that is for later...........i have a couple of questions regarding this unit........if this is NOT the place to post it, please let me know.......anyway, i have reviewed the above post (or at least most of them)......seems the 215 is a great boat for inland lakes, including the great lakes........if anyone can give me their thoughts as to whether i am correct or not, please reply...........next question, given the age, and the fact sea ray doesn't produce this model any longer, how will it be getting replacement parts.........nothing specific as i know they are put together with parts from lots of manufacturers, just like my motorhome is...............i would appreciate being steered in the right direction regarding future posts on this site..............i look forward to your replies......thanks....scott

Scott,

Welcome aboard.

We currently have a 2006 215 Weekender. This summer will be our 13th season with this boat. We have used the boat on many inland lakes throughout the state of Ohio, taken it to Dale Hollow in TN/KY, and now use it exclusively in the western basin of Lake Erie. For it's size, you will be hard pressed to find a boat that will provide more than this particular model. Because of it's size, you do have to consider conditions before venturing out onto the open waters of the great lakes. Are there days we wish we had a larger boat? Yes! You just have to pick your battles wisely.

I really can't comment on the availability of replacement parts. However, I would have to believe that most anything you would need is available if you search hard enough.

thank you casey............i know erie can be unforgiving........but i appreciate the fact you have owned it for 13 years and are still happy..........shows me it must be a pretty decent unit........again, thanks

Scott,

We really enjoy our 05' 215 as well. I primarily boat on Lake Superior, however as Casey stated, pick your battles on big water. We were once caught up in 6'-8's and it was 'EXTREMELY' unpleasant, but she got us back safely. It's deep enough to get you out of trouble or handle big water, yet small enough to trailer and use at smaller lakes and rivers.
As far as parts, you should be okay. I accidentally smashed through my little door last year and was able to replace it, although it was a shiny nickel. Mechanical parts wise, no issues finding what I need from multiple sources.
Enjoy,
Ollie

thanks ollie..............good information to know..........

here's one for the group, new to us 215 express, 1998, 5.7 carb..............it started earlier this year for sea trial, and started for the guy to inspect it...........got it home, sat for a couple of weeks, and now won't start.........turns over just fine, but will not light................kill switch on, in neutral, followed instructions in owners manual, has fuel........seems like there is no spark, or no fuel (no gasoline aroma)...........thoughts?............is there a switch i don't know about, a breaker, a fuel shut off valve, something...............tried three times over the weekend, didn't want to run the batteries down too much............someone suggested i tap on carb as it might be a stuck float...........if i cannot solve this, it is headed to shop.......thanks in advance

spray some starting fluid down the throat of the carb then try to start the engine...if it fires and runs for a few seconds then you have a fuel issue...if not you likely have an ignition issue....
