I replaced my Clarion head unit on the bridge with a Fusion UD650 head and now want to replace the Clarion remote unit in the cockpit. I know the UD650 is a Bluetooth unit but wifey wants a controller in the cockpit. Has anyone removed their’s? I can’t figure out how to access the back to remove the bracket. Help please.

I have a remote for my fusion but the app for the phone is awesome and actually allows you to control more features.
Hope this helps

Brian - In the 52DB the ice maker is below the remote and needs to be removed to access behind. Wire for the remote then routes forward into the Solon and into the entertainment cabinet where there is a pathway up to the bridge. I don't know if there are similarities but there you have it for the 52....

Brian while you have access to the area run a nmea 2k drop cable to the remote , I ran mine and now I see water depth, temp, etc on the fusion remote from the plotters. Nice info to have in the cockpit.

Steve, I’ve got the Fusion app as well, but my wife wants a remote in the cockpit (probably to lower the volume of the music I am controlling with the app from the dock).

Thanks, Tom. Although I have a locker underneath the remote in a location similar to your ice maker, the remote appears to be located behind the step mold. I’m hoping I’m missing something but the only access I can envision is if I remove the cabinet above the TV.

Joe, I don’t recall if I had the head unit connected to the new plotters. I’m hoping to just reuse the existing cable, not sure if that will work. I’m pretty sure I can see all of that on my phone with the Raymarine app.

There are two 8mm (Not sure on the 8mm but it is small) nuts on the underside of the remote. One holds a ground connection, the other a screw that goes into a bracket that holds the remote in place on the helm/dash. There's only one way to remove a clarion remote - you need to get behind the unit and unscrew that little nut and the bracket will then fall down and the remote units comes out the top. This will be easy if you can actually see the bracket and nuts. Otherwise you'll have to feel around and hope the nut you need to remove is not to tight and easy to get a small socket on to it.

Brian, I’ve been behind the tv quite a bit this summer with salon/tv upgrades. No stairwell access back there. Might try removing the top electrical box next to salon door, but I’m not sure you’ll see anything. Might have to resort to busting the clarion remote apart with drastic measures since you won’t need it anyway?

Jeff, I actually called SR Customer Service this morning before seeing your post. You are exactly correct; according to their drawings and notes, access to the remote back is through that top electrical box next to the salon door. I have not checked to see how easy this will be but that is a very small hole. As an aside, I also considered using a hole saw on the old Clarion unit to get it out. Thanks. My next question will be, how the heck do I snake the new cable all the way up to the bridge on the opposite side of the boat.

Brian, on our boat I dropped cables behind the electrical panel into the ER across and back up into the entertainment center then up to the bridge. Mine has all the wiring running up the walls behind the entertainment center. Drop a pull wire to leave there for the future.
Also ran HDMI/ from port side to my panel on the strb side through the sliding door lower track it was a clean shot across . Just another option.

Brian, I think your cockpit clarion remote is daisy-chained back to the forward bridge clarion remote (in the U-shaped seating next to the bridge fridge). I suggest you snake the wire up from the cockpit remote to the access panel behind the bridge door, then along the starboard access along the bridge forward to the cupboard/ice-maker/fridge, and work your way around the area behind and under the u-shaped seat over to the port side and then back to the dash/stereo head unit. Should take 2 people and a decent fish tape about 20 minutes? Hope my description makes sense!
