Just a heads up to those boating in the Ches Bay. Had a tough experience yesterday as we hit submerged debris in the Bay and damaged both of my props. Tough year for floating debris in the bay and creeks. Saw multiple 8'-10' "logs" floating and should have turned back then. Lesson learned, the hard way!

Yep. A buddy of mine bent a prop on Saturday. I think he was returning to Pasadena from Fairlee Creek. I dodged a ton heading into the Bodkin yesterday as well. And those where the ones I could see... keep an eye on the water at all times!

Ran down to herring bay on Friday and back today from Middle River saw like 3 pieces

I've hit three things this year that were not visible but luckily no damage. This weekend was by far the best as we only saw a handful of logs running from the C&D to Rock Hall and back. It's very nerve racking though.

Update: Bent starboard shaft and prop. Now to deal with my insurance company. Frustrating to say the least and likely the end of the 2018 boating season for me! Bad Luck!

My boat gets pulled on Tuesday for a wax job. I'll be down there to inspect my running gear. Fingers crossed.

When we did the flotilla trip end of July most of us touched something submerged and the amount of large tree sized logs was unbelievable. We moved around the bay at trawler speed most of the time. Not to mention all the dead fish floating what’s that about?

We were cruising around middle to upper bay last week, saw a lot of dead fish. Was wondering the same thing.

I just came up the Bay early this week, and then all the way up the Potomac to Prince William Marina...and never saw so many huge logs and trees right in the channel. Once you leave the Potomac and up the river, they are referred to as Occoquan alligators, but I am a Florida boy and have never seen this many 'gators right in the way. So many in fact, I could not dodge them all and had to slow down to a crawl to give them a soft love tap to get them out of the way....prop killers for sure. Reminds me of going up the Mississippi River, you see a small twig sticking up and when you come along side of it, you realize that twig is attached to the whole damn tree, which is just below the surface. You guys who deal with that are tougher than me, for sure.

it definitely has been a crazy, debris-filled summer. NEVER seen this much crap in the bay.

we were out two weeks ago, and for the most part it seemed okay. not great. but much better. thanks for the update, though! sorry to hear you banged things up. :/

Capt. Rusty, look what I lost in the Occoquan Channel in July....

They announced that they are opening 13 gates on the Conowingo dam today and more over the weekend for the expected rains. Be prepared for more debris !

Rusty,

So sorry I missed you twice without knowing till you’d left Tidewater Marina. Gimme Time II was in Slip B7 third from the end on B dock as you’re walking out to the parking lot from the restaurant.

I passed by you in my light yellow Cobia Center console taking in south while you were headed north to Tidewater as I was heading to the Ocean yard to drop the boat off for a bottom job.

Later that night walking the docks I saw the Boat you were running up the bay tied up at Tidewater. Didn’t see or even know you were aboard and should have checked Fish & Slips but didn’t even think of it. What model Was the boat as I’m assuming it had Zeus drives with the high bridge area. Looked a lot like a Meridian I’d seen on the great loop in Canada in 2015 ?

Sorry I did see ya and buy ya dinner and some Long Island ice tea or just straight tea, maybe next time. The bay North has been a challenge this year so we stayed Tidewater for the most part!

Hey John,

Damn I am sorry we didn't hook up. I was on a 460FLY headed to the Potomac, and yes, Mr. Daniels and I were getting acquainted up stairs at the bar!

Damn it again!!
