The start of the Fall boating season

Beautiful Pic!

1st yr I hope it cools off soon.. to get rid of our red tide!

Since we don’t fish and you can’t swim in the fall we are slowly slipping into a depression as the season closes
However this should be our last winter in the NE the little guy is a senior so next year we’ll be free to move around the country.
Our boat stays in her slip all year they won’t dry store her either. Her hull is happier in the water anyway.

I’m up in the air about staying in the water this coming winter. I’ve never done it before.
But I was able to store my old 300 Sundancer on the hard on my private dock property and loved having the ability to keep it plugged in to my own electric all winter and the freedom to go inside the shrink wrap regularly to hang out or putter around.
My current boat is too big to be stored on my property so last winter being the first with it I stored it in boatyard. While I could still go in and out of it at will, I did not have the freedom to leave it plugged in. I could only plug it in when I was actually there, and if someone else got there first they would beat me to the only reasonably accesssible 15amp outlet. Same problem with accessibility for my garden hose when the time came.
The boatyard and the guy who runs it are absolutely fantastic and access to his electric and water while being stored is much better than most other places around here, but I still miss the freedom I used to have.
I’m kind of nervous about staying in though because with both kids away at college this year we hope to do some traveling over the winter and I’m afraid that I would be worrying about the boat all the time.

JVM, is the dock owner present during the winter months? Would he check on the boat for you while away?
Is there WiFi avail? For a camera etc.
I’m at the boat 2-3 days a week during the winter so I’m the
The eyes and ears for other owners plus our marina has staff year round
The only thing I really worry about is when the storms start brewing I add fenders and lines
The marina activate the bubbler system when needed
Not much else to do.

I’m the dock/property owner.
It’s 50’ of bulkhead along a canal. Although I have electric service and water on the property, I don’t have Internet there. The property itself is a 25’ wide x 50’ long empty lot so Internet is not an option.
It’s about 7 miles from my house and I’m back and forth all the time so no problem when not traveling, but I’m really up in the air about how worried about the boat I would be when I was traveling.
Both of our kids are away at school, I’m fully retired now and my wife works part time so I don’t want to pass up the opportunity to take a few vacations over the colder months.

You might consider Boat Command. You can track things like temperature, bilge pumps, battery voltage. shore power, etc. It works over cellular and the service is reasonably priced. Great peace of mind.

Here's us last December ...signature pic was taken in February. Granted these are the only two days it didn't rain last winter. :)

Fall has long been our favorite time of year, it's what comes after it that is starting to disagree with us.

After doing this during the winter of 2016-17

we kind of have decided that we would rather do the first one.
We start heading south in about 3 weeks, really looking forward to Fall in the Chesapeake.

If you make it up the Potomac towards DC, give a holler!

Sorry my3, but you have it all wrong. Heading South involves travel to places like Arizona where the days are in the 80's-90's and the nights in the 60s-70's.
Here's what a relaxing day on the water in AZ looked like in the winter. We're beached on a sand bar doing some reading and getting some sun.
