Has anyone modified their V berth to enlarge it? I am talking about something other than a better thicker mattress or topper. My plan is to remove the back rests and then finish the area that is uncovered. Also I plan to have a mattress made that will create an overhang of about 4 inches beyond the current edge of the mattress support. I looked at moving the bulkhead but it would require way to much modification to make it worth while. I saw one comment in an old thread where someone reported removing the back rests but no real elaboration.

Thanks.

When we had our 2000 widebeam 270 we removed the bolsters and I wrapped the glassed in mounting ledge with thin foam and a complimentary color of vinyl. We also added about 4 inches of memory foam. The thickness is limited by the cabinet that opens over the v-berth. It greatly expanded the sleeping area and was well worth it as we did not use the v-berth as a dinette space as the boat had the separate dinette area. I don't know if I have any pics but will look for some.

Awesome. I was planning on trying this but now I know I will not be traveling into unknown waters. How did you attach the foam and vinyl wrap? I would love to see pictures.

I also never use it as a dinette space. For me it is never converted from the sleeping arrangement. I actually prefer to sleep in the stern berth since it is longer but my wife does not like the amount of enclosure in the stern berth.

Any pics of the final product? I am getting ready to do this now

You may fare better here as the OP was here recently, Loneranger was last seen: Oct 31, 2018, but it may not be as quick as you want. Might try sending him a private message.

I have not started yet. This maybe a plan after winterizing. I could find no pictures or any more detailed information than what is in this thread.
