I'm looking to see what people have found to be the better current options for getting satellite TV for watching some football. I use Directv at home and get the Sunday Ticket.

I do not want to permanently mount it on my boat as I'd like to be able to use it on land with my toy hauler as well but will need it to be able to pick up a signal when anchored in different parts of the lake and not docked.

Thoughts??

I also have Directv at home with Sunday Ticket. I have wifi on the boat and use a Roku stick to view the games. If you have paid for it at your home, you can use your same Directv login to view. When away from the dock, I set up a hotspot on my phone and can still stream the games in HD.

Now that's what I'm talking about! I didn't want to have to invest in an expensive satellite as most places we are at have decent cell signal.

I have DirecTV NOW which is a streaming service over the internet.....if you have a large enough data plan that might be an option.....that way you can watch a game when and where you want on your phone or tablet or smart TV....or dumb TV with a streaming device like Amazon Fire Stick.....

I bought a Winegard G2+ automatic antenna for use on my boat. I found it on craigslist for $250 and offered $175. I bring my extra receiver down to the boat and plug it in. It works well at the dock and even worked in the Bahamas.

It works with all of the major providers.

how well does it track? does it stay locked on the satellite? I am on the Ohio River and my boat pitches and yaws a a good bit especially with the passing barge traffic

It does surprisingly well. We have yet to have an issue with losing a signal. I have it set up so if I really need to I can pull it off the roof and set it on the dock.

Guys, I have an iphone that I use for a hotspot, directv subscription at home (and receiver at boat when at the dock), but can't figure out how to stream anything from directv. Have a samsung smart tv in salon and a roku tv in v berth as well as a firestick. Can anybody tell me what to do? Seems pretty easy with an android to screen mirror but apple locks their shit down. Would love to be able to watch games on ESPN or Fox sports. I have KODI on the firestick but the resolution for live tv is horrible.

Dan,

When we have wifi, I use my iPad or iPhone and my Dish Anywhere App and run it through an
Apple lightning video connector to an HDMI cable and it works great.

Works perfect Dan! We have these also when away from the dock with Dish. We have a dock neighbor that tried one and his Xfinity would not work. However, with the ESPN app, CBS Sports app, etc., all work great!

I used Apple TV in the past and this connector is much easier to use.

Lightning to Hdmi sounds like its worth a shot. Gracias! Apple TV streaming too, will report back.

I’ve got a KVH with direct TV subscription and one box on the boat. But I’ve got 3 TV’s. I’ve got things set up so that I can watch the Direct TV on any of the 3 TV’s with the one box, but they all have to watch the same channel.
I use the Apple HDMI with my iPad and unlimited cellular plan to get all kinds of stuff on the TV’s on the boat. Works great.
I have the Direct TV app on my iPad and watch it all the time while doing cardio at the gym.
I thought I would outsmart Direct TV and use my iPad to stream channels other than what the box was set to on a different TV thereby allowing sleepover guests to watch a different channel in the salon or aft cabin than we were watching.
No good! Direct TV blocks streaming or screen mirroring from their App from one device to another.
When I try to do it I get a “unable to display content” message on the TV screen even though the Direct TV channel is playing on my iPad that’s hooked up to that TV with the Apple lightning to HDMI adapter.

Which KVH system do you have? My M1 no longer works

M3. It”s Standard def with a 12 volt mobile receiver. Works perfectly.
