Just bought a 2002 340 Sundancer and was wondering if anyone had info on the dash lighting. At night the switch area is pitch black and unless you remember where the switches are or unless you put on the arch lights, you can't see a thing. They don't appear to be backlit, any feedback would be appreciated. Thanks.

It's backlit. Probably has EL panels. Either a bad connection or the inverter that boosts the 12V helm lighting up to 120V has failed. Cheap enough and common parts that you can find on the 'net with a google search.

Do you have a dimmer for the dash lights? It may be all the way off or the dimmer switch is bad.

Just Ducky, you were kind enough to reply to the post below. Can you explain exactly what it is that I would google? Really need to get this fixed, like driving blind at night..... Thanks.

I just purchased a 1995 33 Sundancer. I have not driven the boat at night.
I am looking for the switch to turn on the panel lights in the gauges. I have a dimmer switch on the panel, is that the only switch?

Dunno about others, but for mine, the nav lights have to be on to see the gages and backlighting at night. Also, contrary to the rest of the world, my dimmer has to be turned counter-clockwise to brighten them.

Makes sense.
Thank you.

You can also convert the back lighting to 12v LED lighting pretty cheaply & do away with those pesky EL panels. There have been several threads on that topic here.

I have a 99 340 and I just assumed the writing on the dash was not back lit above each switch. This is great news! Everything else works. My dash lights, and light dimmers etc. So what is that I’m looking for to get the writing to light up?Is it that $26 inverter on flounder pounder?
