Is this for the one in the bridge?
Taking the shade apart is not difficult, but my plastic end caps were very brittle and one of them broke when I took them off. My shade wouldn't retract fully and I was able to increase the spring tension to fix it without buying any other parts than the end cap I broke. I have the disassembly/reassembly instructions for the Oceanair hard top hatch shade. The file is too large to upload. Contact me and I'll email it to anyone who needs it. Or call OceanAir (802) 362-5258 and they'll send it to you.

This was just the shade side, it consist of the spring loaded roller and the shade only, not the handle/latch that goes across the edge of the shade or anything else.

Anyone have a canvas cockpit shade made? Was interested in simple canvas attached to the existing canvas track above salon and then secure with poles utilizing the rod holders. Any pictures? Have a canvas person who is going to do, but she asked me to buy the poles i wanted... any suggestions? Not interested in $1000 poles. Thanks, Dave

I had one made last fall and have used it a few times this season. Quick and easy to install/uninstall, made of Stamoid and uses fiberglass poles. My local canvas guy made it and said it took him a few years to find a pole that he was happy with. Mine was around $1300 total.

The fiberglass poles don't look as nice as Stainless but for all the more we use it they're fine. There is no brand name on the poles and he said he has to modify them. Let me know if you want his contact info, might be able to buy just the poles from him.

The horn quit tooting this past weekend. I have not started searching for the problem yet, but hoping someone will know the answer. It worked on Saturday and not on Sunday. Breaker issue?

The cupholders in my bridge settee arms are starting to deteriorate? Has anyone replaced them? If so, where did you get them? How did you get them out and in?
you can buy those cup holders anywhere. They are a 4inch OD. I have done mine. The settee cups are slightly larger than the ones built into the helm. Those are 3.5od.

OK, I have been thinking of this for a while. I am very interested in the length of the poles and any additional height for the addition of the hooks at the end. Thanks, so much

I am going to start tracking down my horn issue this weekend. Where is the air horn compressor located on a 2001 480? I am guessing that is the problem.

Mine is starboard side at the rear of the engine and outboard of the drive shaft well. Although it was an aftermarket addition on a '99.

Quick question for you 480DB owners with Cummins QSM11's: If you've repropped smaller to preserve your engines from thermal destruction (per the recommendations on SBmar and boatdiesel), you're running at 20GPH or less. So what are your RPM's at 20GPH (or less) and what speed are you cruising when you're at 20GPH (per engine)? From what I've seen with Cats, when you cruise at low to mid 20's knots, you're burning well over 20GPH per engine. Just curious what the typical cruise speed is for a re (correctly) propped QSM11?

Tony's latest recommendation is 18 GPH @ 2000 RPM. I removed 1" pitch and went from #4 to #2 cup over the last few years.

I cruise anywhere from 20-22 knots depending on conditions @ 1950 RPM burning 18-19 per side. My EGT's are 900-940 at cruise, they climb to well over 1000 degrees in the 1600-1800 RPM range.

So he's lowered his GPH recommendations even further? I haven't run across that yet. But that's not a good sign. That seems to imply that the engines are destined to eventually thermally destruct, and that it's just a case of when that happens. By continuing to lower fuel burn recommendations are we just trying to prolong the "when" as far as possible?

20-22 knots is a fine speed, especially for the size of the boat. The Cats can safely cruise faster, but they aren't without their issues, too. Glad to see these recommendations still produce cruising speeds over 20 knots!

I'd love to hear numbers from other Cummins owners, too!
