5 nights on the hook.

wow thats crazy he is lucky that he wasnt in deeper waters

Simply put, a drunk moron cleaned out his A/C strainer, didn’t put the top back on and reopened the sea clock.

He then somehow climbed up out of the engine compartment without realizing this, passed out and the boat sunk within hours after the batteries quit.

If he wasn’t in 4 feet of water he and his wife would probably be dead.

When asked what his plan was for the insurance adjuster was he said he was going to cut a bellows.

My guess is that he’s going to get nothing and that’s exactly what he deserves.

Unfortunately, the vast majority of boaters local to me are just like him.

My insurance premium just went up 20% and I was told that it was due to a high rise in claims in my area.

Funny(or not so much) saw this pic on a FB group I belong to, and that's what they are saying happened...bellows.

Geeez. The new boat I am in the process of buying has a broken fitting on the AC pump outlet. The boat is on the trailer 15 miles from the slip and I still closed the seacock just in case....lol. Seriously though, I closed it just in case I hadn't got a new pump yet and forgot about it and dropped it in. Wanted to be safe in the event that happened so I closed the seacock. How could you possibly not close it after seeing water gushing in?

Re-reading this thread I regret sounding so critical. I see so much carelessness and loss due to very avoidable things that it colored my opinion. The reason for the spike in my insurance rate and this incident coincided and it tourqed me a bit.

I don’t know the owner or what his experience level or intellect is and I sounded a bit high and mighty there.

It was a good looking vessel and is apparently in pretty rough shape.

:(

IMHO you have nothing to be sorry about. This accident was 100% preventable, and solely caused by the skipper and his inability to drink moderately. He could have killed his family and the people tied off to his boat. Experience and intellect have nothing to do with this accident.

It's a sad misconception that it's ok to get drunk on the boat, just as long as you're not driving it at the time. As far as I'm concerned, at anchor is when the skipper needs to be even more vigilant in his duties.

I think what's even more troublesome about this scenario is that this guy wasn't even man enough to admit his mistake and take his lumps. He's gonna blame it on the bellows, have all his friends lie for him, and then get drunk the next time he's out on the water.

Just another "Cocktail Captain" gone bad.

I feel bad for the boat, not the owner.

How’s this for irony...

We got 8” of rain overnight and I got a call from my dock neighbor at 5AM saying that there was a catastrophe happening at the marina and he was right.

We had a flash flood that raised the water level about 5 feet in as many hours. Numerous boats sunk at the dock, many were ashore, atop the docks or adrift and wedged under bridges. It was mahem and the marina seemed to be totally destroyed.

A dozen of us stood vigil and tied and re-tied our boats and many others and saved all of ours as well as others.

The guy who’s boat sunk over the weekend was there and his boat was high and dry in a travel lift that had its wheels submerged but was otherwise fine.

I just got home and showered off the mud. The water receded and our boats have settled right back into place.

In the midst of this the place was evacuated and I was hauled away in a snorkel equipped Hum Vee that had water rushing through it.

It was a helluva day.

YEESH sounds like the yahoos I've seen at lake Mojave every year when we used to boat out there.
