Blue plastic drain plugs on Cool Fuel 4

Interesting...if you mouse over the blue plugs shown in the link to the Hardin site they picture them with an ear lopped off.

2 minutes later:

Oh, I see. They're trying to show us what makes the blue ones bad.

Here is how the current plug rests against the fuel line. Marked it so once removed I would grind off the correct wing. Note: there was no issues tightening the plug all the way...just an issue with where it wound up when tight.

I took plug out and put a spare in right away so all the skunk water wouldn't pour out into the bilge. Lo and behold, the replacement did not come to rest against the fuel line. So I'm going to leave that one in place, grind The Marked wing off the one I removed and use that as my spare. Is stainless steel plug that I ordered from McMaster-Carr did not work out. But it really didn't matter because I had decided to go with the grinding as opposed to the dissimilar metal potential issue. The 1st pic (top) shows how the new one ended up...

Good question. When I installed that fuel cooler and put the fuel line on I had all to do tighten it to the point where it is now. I was deathly afraid of cracking the aluminum casing so I just stopped there.

Ron, tell me about those shiny raw water pumps!

yea curious how many years they held up so far?? Those are the SS water pumps.... Gonna pull the trigger when mine go bad...

6th season now on port motor, 3rd on the stbd. No issues. Change the impellers after 3 seasons. Due after this year.

So I would guess, that with the stainless steel wear plates the the ends of the impellers that there was probably only a marginal amount of scoring? Ron, did you feel the need to replace the wear plates when swapping the impeller? I'm thinking of doing this as a winter project.

In the spring I'll open both up and check. Port will be second impeller change. I'm sure I'll see more wear this go around but did not need to replace the plate. Stbd will be first impeller change. Will give me a good basis for comparison I guess.
