One of my Rochester Carbs is in rough shape, it's off for a rebuild and the first reports are bad. It's base is going to have to be replaced. I have a spare carb for parts.

What is the replacement carb for a 88 350?

Q jets are "spread bore" carbs. Your small blocks use the 650cfm version. I believe Eldebrock makes a spread bore replacement that works well. If it were me I'd have the Q jet rebuilt and keep the boat original. Q jets are good carbs if maintained correctly.

We are trying to but it may be to far gone. I thought we had rebuilt this carb in the past but it's obvious now that I was wrong.

Save the Qjet if you can. If not then go with the Edelbrock 1409 high will also give you an electric choke which is nice. Get the keyed power from your coil and you’re good to go.
I repowered my old Boat back in 2012 with two new Mercruiser motors and those are the carbs the motors came with.
We’ve also installed them on a friends boats and they always worked flawlessly.
