Hello All,

NJ owner here :) I usually take my family(including 3 yr old) down to Tices shoal to anchor and swim. I caught the news articles about the clinging jellyfish, now I'm a bit paranoid to bring the 3 yr old there. I realize we run the risk anywhere but they tend to like vegitation and shallower water (tices shoal). I was hoping some of you kind folks might help by clue-ing me in to better spots to anchor and swim for the day? (PM is cool)

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

We go to Tices every weekend. After the news about the clinging jellyfish, I am now just anchoring in much further to avoid any eel grass, which is what they supposedly are around. I've only heard of 2 people getting stung so far, but I may be asking the same question if it starts happening more often.

There are many boats anchored on the sand bar and beach in Barnegat Inlet. I've tried it a few times, but you have to watch the green heads.

wow just read up on the clinging jellys.. yikkes... i remember surfing the shore as a youth and had to watch out for the big jellys.. those are tiny buggers...

welcome! look on google satellite for clean spots

Thanks. Yeah, I can't make up my mind on where to anchor if we go there. There's an argument for closer in (less eel grass immediately (BUT tons surrounding)), and further out where you can't touch the bottom (eel grass underneath and faster moving current)... one hand and the other I guess

I've never been to barnegat inlet, do you mind sharing the location of where to anchor?

Thanks for the reply! I've thought about this, but I don't have enough knowledge about the bay to look at the image and decide that it's an "ok" place to anchor.. any tips on the process you use to make that decision would be awesome!
