Dock hands burned up water pump

Here are my compression test results from 2016 for my future reference

i find it hard to believe the raw pump locked up still.. hard to turn by hand, maybe blocked or something wedged inside..
i can see the alternator locking up but due to coolant overflow? i guess you have a closed cooling system. you would have know prior it was overheating to have coolant overflow..i would suspect?
still fishy... i feel you pain

Mechanic should be able to look at the ECM data to determine if it did in fact overheat - assuming he has the Merc scan tools.
Don't take this the wrong way, because if flushing is a service your marina provides then they should have qualified people doing it, do it right and also fess up when something goes wrong. Accidents happen, things go wrong, but being up front and honest is most important - lie to me or hide something and I am done with you and any business we had. Me, I am just too particular, I keep my boat in dry storage also, but I rarely let the marina move my boat around when I am not there. I just don't trust hardly anyone. I like to be the "first on" and "last off".

I have the 6.2L engines in my 320. About a year ago one of the blue drain plugs broke off while underway and spewed saltwater on both engines. I did not know it till I got home. Cleaned off the engines and sprayed liberal amounts of anti corrosion spray. Well was having my 100 hour service done in May and also replaced manifolds, risers and elbows as they were 5 years old. Got everything back together and the port alternator froze. Put in new alternator and then the raw water pump froze. New water pump and then the same happened on my starboard engine. Now I'm chasing sensor issues. I just love boating.

I could have misunderstood what the tech stated, will know more today. Yes, closed cooling, 5.7 350 horizon. The engines were fine when I dropped it off on Sunday, July 15. I want to see the video to determine how long the engine was running unattended. Pretty sure the coolant over flowed at that point, but the belt might have stayed intact. Then, when engine was cranked to move the boat around this past Sunday, the alternator had frozen up, and the belt snapped. In this scenario, the raw water pump might not be frozen, but maybe chunks of the impeller are blocking the heat exchanger causing the overheating of the engine.

Yes, regarding ECM, left a message yesterday and asked this. They did explain what they saw on the video when they discovered the engine was not running correctly and I appreciate that, but I believe someone had to have known 3 weeks ago Monday that the coolant was overflowing while they flushed the engines. I have no choice but to allow them to at least lift and dunk it, I live an hour away, so not good if I have to show up then wait for them to splash boat. When I return, they are gone, so I have to trust them to do their job the following morning. I can start to flush my own engines, keep the keys on me, and provide a duplicate set to my mechanic.

I wouldn't let those clowns touch my boat they sound like their not even close to understanding how a boat operates.

Okay, good news, and bad news. Good news? I can trust the dock hands again. The damage to the engine had been occurring for at least the previous 2 trips, maybe 3. Bad news? Pump had a leak, and was splashing salt water all over pulley, and all the pulleys, and the alternator. This killed the alternator, and it eventually froze, breaking the belt, all pulleys had to be replaced as well. About 10-20 clamps were replaced as well, some just popped off when the wrench touched it.
Really Bad news? Super expensive to fix! But the engine never overheated, no internal damage at all, so I’m taking it on a rest run tomorrow and see how she performs. Starboard water pump will be pulled in March or April, and rebuilt or replaced depending on condition.
As you can see by the images attached, this did not just happen due to someone not providing water, this was an issue I did not catch and I should have by inspecting engines both before AND after we go out for a trip.

I’m just glad the internals were okay. I am having the starboard water pump removed and either replaced or fixed as a precaution. I am certain it is 10 years old and my water pressure on the starboard is 16 and the port is showing 24 at around 3850 rpm (now with the new pump/impeller).

An important part of the impeller/water pump replacement is making sure all the pieces of the old impeller are accounted for.

A broken piece of the impeller can travel through the system causing a blockage, water restriction and possibly an overheating condition.

A blockage before the water pressure sensor will show as low pressure. A blockage after the water pressure sensor will show up as a high pressure reading.
