old gas-will it still be good?

k. waiting to hear back from seller about pumps. there is a filter on the outlet side of the pump so my first check would be that filter.

dunno. a canoe is looking pretty good right now...lol

I'll bet that canoe is looking pretty good with all you have been through. You are a very patient man.
I hope you are not somehow emotionally attached to this boat because I'm having a hard time understanding the logic behind your persistance on this one, as I belive that you just sold a better boat.

not emotionally attached at all, just the best we have seen out there at a pretty fair price. i could walk away with no hard feelings other than the $500 the surveyor has now...lol

got the report back today. nothing too bad. the worst things mentioned were the bellows would need replaced soon, the anodes ASAP, the CO monitor doesn't work, and he mentions the fresh water and AC pumps. he also mentions getting the engine checked over my a mechanic to figure out what it 'assumed' to be a bad fuel issue.

haven't heard from the sellers since the sea trial but did stop at the shop today and they said the owner was there yesterday pulling strainers and filters. he said there was mold in the filters/strainers so he thought it was likely the lines were plugged. the owner of the shop said his boat did the same thing before. he had to pull his tank and blow out all lines. he also mentioned to them about pumping out all the old fuel and they seemed to think it was a good idea.

i'll wait to hear from the seller then go from there. we have been pretty busy lately with other things so that helps with the patience issue...lol.

If that boat is the best thing you have seen, then I strongly recommend you look longer, harder and expand your search area as others have suggested earlier.
When you find the right boat, you will know it and it won't have anything to do with when the boating season is over.

Does this one really feel like it is the right boat?

I don't think I would "wait" on the seller. I would send her a punch list of the items which need addressed per survey and/or price concessions and go from there. Heck if they are not willing to discount the few hundred for pump replacements, then you save a boat load of time figuring out the engine/fuel.

Please do tell exactly what boat it is, year, model, extras. We've heard all the cons, how about a price tag ?

lol. thought I added that. It's a 2006 Crownline 250CR with a brand new 2016 Venture aluminum trailer. Seller was asking $36,000 but I got them down quite a bit from that because it has been sitting for 3 years. It was shrink wrapped until a couple months ago and still needs cleaned and waxed. Right now we are at $30k. The surveyor came in at above average condition.

What it needs:
washed/waxed
anodes
bellows (before next season-they aren't that bad)
isenglass is yellowed but we never use that, only the bimini and it is in good condition
fresh water and AC not pumping water
rough idle and stalling at idle (gas is 3 years old)

What we like:
when the boat was used it was well taken care of. they were always washing and cleaning it and was taken to the shop at the end of each season and gone over and winterized
wife loves the layout with seating, etc. the only other one we have seen that she liked was the 270 DA from 1998-1999 (9'2" beam)
new trailer
BIII outdrive very clean. only a few spots with paint missing but no corrosion
it is small enough to take anywhere we want to go with it (and my truck will pull it)

What I don't like:
wanted a boat with an arch (like the looks)
windlass (either going to install one myself or the local shop quoted me just under $2000 to install one)
wouldn't have minded going slightly bigger (no bigger than 29') but then i need a bigger truck

Well, now you know what it needs so you just have to ask yourself if it’s worth it or not.

2k is about right for a windless if it includes everything as well as chain & rode etc

Yeah, he said that was a new anchor, chain, rope, and all electricals.

Talked to the seller earlier and they got the fresh water system working. There is a filter on the pump and it was plugged. Now the AC and old fuel to deal with. The air was working and blowing cold but barely anything exiting the thru hull. I'm thinking the hose going to that thru hull may be plugged? I know both of mine on my old boat for both sinks were plugged with mud from wasp nests. Told the seller to get the payoff from her bank Monday and I will hopefully get everything sent to my lender Monday.

Clearing that could be as easy as spraying water into the overboard discharge.
Not that it’s your problem to deal with, just can’t help thinking about possible solutions to problems...

hope so

I'll bet that canoe is looking pretty good with all you have been through.

Down to 2 kayaks this year after a year like his, and frankly never had a less stressful boating season! We'll get another one some time, but for now, it's a good mix of free time vs. hassles.

Good luck with the boat, and remember there's always another one.

Based on all you have gone trough, have you verified the boat is 100% lean free and there are do debts owed for past work. Also you may want to ensure all the work doing done by the marina has been paid for.
When I purchased a boat in the US the broker got me a certified lean free document.

They do owe on the loan but they are supposed to be getting the payoff tomorrow. I have to send that into my lender with a copy of the sales agreement, survey report, etc. My lender will wire the money to her bank to release the title. Not sure what happens from there but will find out tomorrow. I don't know if the rest of the funds go to me or directly to the seller or what we do with the title from there.
As for work done, the shop it sits at now is the only one that has ever done work on it since they bought it. They didn't have a trailer for it until this past November so up to that point this marina pulled it and stored it, as well as did all work on it. I talked to them last week and they gave me a rundown of all work they had done on it in the past but that has all been paid for. They do owe on work that has been done to it in getting it ready for the survey/sea trial. Batteries, impeller, etc.

Selling property that has a lien on it is fraud. It results in jail time, a felony, a fine, plus restitution.

In the construction business we do a Statutory Declaration the owner of the firm signs stating all monies owed have been paid to all who worked on the project. At that point the 10 or 15% hold back is releases. No idea if you can due that on a boat sale.

The seller got the fresh water system working. The filter on the pump was plugged. Easy fix. They said they replaced that pump 3 years ago just before they laid it up for it's 3 year rest. Now just the AC issue and the fuel issue. Pretty sure the AC issue is a blocked line. Like I said earlier, it worked and blew cold air, just hardly anything coming out the thru hull.

I told the seller today that we will take it as is now. Pretty sure those are pretty easy fixes and other than that the survey came back clean. So now waiting to get the sales contract signed so I can get that sent in to our lender tomorrow so we can get this going. They require a copy of the sales agreement, survey, registration, etc. Called and texted seller to meet up to get that signed today but still waiting on a response...lol. Story of this transaction....waiting around on the seller. Hoping to get this submitted first thing in the morning to Essex so with any luck we can be boating next weekend. Just have to replace anodes and pick up a couple of water separators to keep onboard. Probably call the shop this week to have them pump the tank out to eliminate that.

If you planning on "boating" next weekend, I hope you have time to shake everything down and fix what needs fixing. Boat that sat for a few years I'd probably be changing the oils, checking the plugs, hoses, etc. Good luck.

Yeah. Planning to bring it home and change anodes, check the AC lines, replace and check contents of the separator and run it on the muffs. We run on the Ohio river and don't usually go more than a couple miles from our slip. Hopefully we get it ironed out but if not there will be somebody around to call for a tow. Pretty confident I can get it dialed in pretty quickly though. Fingers crossed...lol
