340 SUNDANCER THREAD

Man I want mine to run 28-30 at 3600 ha!

25-26 all day... needs bottom paint though so maybe the fuzzz is a problem.

just thought I would mention a recent mod I made to my boat that is working out well in case someone else is interested in doing the same....

I have never liked the fill in seat on the starboard side of the cockpit....it was a PITA to remove and install and served only one function as a seat....and it is not very attractive IMO.....

so I decided to replace the filler seat with an Engel 65 high performance cooler.....I got the white color to better match the other seating....it is about the same height as the built in cockpit seating and serves a dual purpose as a seat and a nice cooler and I can stand on it if I need to access the side deck on the starboard side.....it works VERY well at keeping ice...in fact in various testing it has worked as well or better than a similar size Yeti cooler but the Engel is much less expensive....I also got the compartment separator and the wire basket accessories for the cooler.....

being the basically lazy bastard I am  I figured out a way to not have to dump the water from the melted ice out of the cooler at the end of each WE.....this cooler is substantial and is not light, even without any water....the drain for the cooler is on the bottom right side towards the rear of the boat....since the boat naturally sits in the water with a slight downward slope from front to rear the water naturally drains towards the rear of the boat as the ice melts...I purchased a replacement drain plug for the cooler and installed a brass hose barb in the center of the plug.....I then drilled a hole in the deck under the back cockpit seat located right above the drain for the water channel around the ER hatch....I inserted a plastic 90* elbow fitting in the hole and used a piece of flexible tubing to connect the hose barb in the drain plug and the plastic 90* fitting....so now when the ice melts the water automatically drains to outside of the boat via the ER hatch drain.....I also made a plug for the hose barb for whenever I want to move the cooler or want to leave the cold water from the melted ice inside the cooler for a while...I thought about installing a small ball valve in the drain to control the flow of water but the plug works just as well....the drain hose is out of sight and made from clear tubing so likely no one will notice it....

if we have guest on the boat i will put some ice into an ice bucket or a small cooler to sit beside the galley to use for drinks so I don't have to ask guest to get up from using the cooler as a seat when ice is needed....

I'm intrigued with the cooler idea... That fill in seat really is a PITA, and yet the Admiral likes to stretch out along there...so it's always installed...
I have to pull that out, and the cushion, every time I want to lift the engine hatch to check on things. Because it's there, stuff accumulates under the seat, so I have to drag that out too. I get the "why do you have to always check on things down there? We don't check the oil and fluids in our cars that often." Argh...

I've been stumped about what to do in this area since the PO did not provided the cushion. I like this idea! Any pics to go along??

my Admiral likes to stretch out on the bow...we have a couple of the adjustable chairs from West Marine that work well on the bow.....as long as we are only slow cruising I am OK with her and a friend or two sitting on the bow while underway...

I have a white RTIC that fits there for long weekends. Does fit well. But drilling a hole in the engine hatch? Yea that’s for sure not my cup of tea... I can move the cooler and drain it... or if lazy drain it where it’s at... it will go into that same drain hole under the hatch to the scuppers..

here are some pics of the cooler mod.....

With that and the other mods you have done, you have a darn nice boat. :)

Hello All,

The Admiral would really like to recover the fabric cushion in the forward part of the cabin, the seat/step on the starboard side adjacent to the berth. But for the life of me, I cannot figure out how to remove it. Anyone have ideas on this one?

I did this to my boat last year. There are 2 screws that hold that cushion down. One on either side of the cushion. when installed, sea ray put the screws through the fabric until they were hidden and under the fabric, if you pull the material on each side of the cushion back you may be able to find the hole and get to the screw.

I think on mine I found one and the other I just pulled untill the screw went through the cushion backing board then removed the screw.

I re-installed the same way Sea Ray did.
