Hello,
Just purchased a 2005 390 Sundancer with the Sea Ray Navigator and C120 chart plotter combo. Every time I turn on the Sea Ray Navigator I have to set the current date and time of day. Is there a way to avoid this?
Thanks!

Agreed on the battery. There's a guy in MD that repairs them or you can throw it in the trash like the rest of us have done.

Best thing to do is throw it away and save yourself a lot of time and money trying to fix it. In my opinion Raymarine Axium Pro series is a good upgrade.

I guess the better question would be which replacement unit would interface with the existing Sea Ray network?

Can you describe that more?
I'm not really sure. Just bought the boat. It has a Raymarine C120, Sea Ray navigator, autopilot, Vessel View, Radar etc. I know they're all tied in but not sure what kind of network it is. If I replace the Navigator I would hope the replacement would plug in and "Talk" to the rest of the equipment. Haven't dived into the manuals yet, maybe that will give me more info.

someone must have updated the Raymarine suite. The C120 didn't come out until 2004'ish
If it is a C120 then the interfacing networks would be Seatalk1, Seatalk2, DSM, and NEMA 0183.
Unfortunately I don't believe a second MFD can be interfaced with the C120 like it can with an E120. You could try to interface the two through the Seatalk 1 network but they would probably not share Radar or DSM data. The autopilot may be on both but I would guess there would be issues. The E120 MFD's, on the other hand have the Seatalk HS which is essentially an Ethernet network and can establish master/slave protocols, share radar, GPS, Autopilot, DSM data as well as command capability for all. Raymarine has a technical forum that has a wealth of great information; check it out

I'm a serious fan of networked MFD's! (late-comer to that game, but now I'm hooked)

Mott, the boat he's referring to is an '05 390. He just hasn't updated his profile yet.

Used E-120's might be a way to preserve the radar, but that's old technology.

FWIW, my OEM Raytheon Auto-pilot has interfaced with 2 generations of Garmin gear since I tore out the rest of the original gear.

So do I need to replace both the Sea Ray Navigator and the C120 with something more current or can I just replace the Navigator with a more current MFD? I guess I need to talk to a Raymarine Tech person to see what will plug and play with the existing SeaTalk system.

Not sure if this helps, but I just replaced the SR Navigator with an E120 Hybridtouch to match the unit that had been put in the left position some years ago. The electrician had to leave the SR "Black Box" in place for us to get depth data from the old SR transducer to the new Raymarine.

So was it pretty much a plug and play installation? By the SR "Black Box", do you mean the SeaTalk?

I assume so. A marine electric pro did the installation. 2 guys took most of the day doing it. We had Technographic make a new panel with the larger cutout, so they switched out the gauges into the new panel, installed the new MFD, and did a few other small things. He just said "black box", so I can't say for sure what he was talking about.
