My generator has a bad smell of gas while it is running like it may not be burning it all or something ?? any ideas ???...

Yep, and make sure the choke moves freely and is open when it should be.

If you have black soot on the water at start up, it's probably the choke sticking. Fouled plugs will cause a hard start and an oily sheen on the water.
