40 sedan bridge forum

I ordered a Centek in-line muffler for my genny today (gas), the same as Boogaboo did in his YouTube video a while back to help quiet up my generator exhaust noise a bit. Basically an additional inline muffler to go in front of the factory muffler. Some non generator running friends with smaller boats that we anchor out with get irritated by my generator exhaust noise while they’re enjoying their relaxing float. Understandable I guess, but their wives sure seem to enjoy the ability to step into some nice air conditioning and use a real bathroom from time to time! Has anyone else done this mod, and are you happy with the results?

I replaced the undersized muffler with an appropriate one for the 8k diesel westerbeke. Somewhere in this thread and other 400db conversations are part numbers. The exhaust tone is much quieter, and very manageable now. My raft up friends approve haha.

Well, I am now fully stocked with alternate water vessels. Dingy on transom, paddle board on bow and now my wife decided she needed a kayak. My plan is just to strap it against the bow rail with the single strap as shown. It seems to hold pretty firm and snug there. I may add another strap. I do plan to put some kind of thin pad between it and the gelcoat to try to protect both. Do any of you use/have a better idea?

I keep the dinghy and 2 kayaks on the bow (all centered). Dinghy is upside down strapped to the cleats. The kayaks are on the dinghy, lashed with a couple lines.

It all looks like you fit good.......

I'd put whatever is lighter on the bow rails, so the rails get the least stress. Stressing them with a load may lead to pulling out screws or leaking.

That's on my list to try tomorrow. Going to stack the kayak on top of the paddleboard with cut up noodle strips underneath like I did under the paddleboard. Darn, I hate I look like a trawler now.

Haha, I got nothing for that. Wife is adding another kayak to our arsenal......

Thanks for your input, team. I still need to add a strap and the protective noodle strips underneath. But I like this much better.

Access to those deck poles require access through.....I don't know what. If you can avoid tying to that, and grab a cleat, your good to go.

I don't quite follow. Are you saying you are concerned the deck rails could get pulled out of the deck?

Yes that. The constant pulling *may* loosen the rail, requiring a re-bed of the stantion. Dropping the headliner in the stateroom is not a job I want to take on.......and if it leaks, you're dealing with a cored deck. I have enough projects on the list.....

That's what I thought you meant. I know with the paddle board there is very little force on the straps. Just holds it in place. I'll re-assess the kayak tiedown.

What's the rail for? Why is it even there?

I love being able to shower in my 400DB and not have to go up to the bathhouse.

I mean I get it, that is the purpose of the rails. But for a 17 year old boat, and all that I've replaced, I look at things different now

In case anyone is interested - I just ordered 2 new ones and they were 81.00 each. I ordered from this website - http://www.hahn-gassprings.com/ The phone number on the spring is no longer active and actually routes you to a Phone Scam, my advise don't call that number.

Yes very interested I need two of them for my 2001 Sedan 400. The pedestals on both helm seats failed. The retaining screws sheared off and the pilot seat went free wheeling then tilted off and bent the piston. Tried to contact Aegis-Hahn but website won’t take info and their email address comes back undeliverable. Also left phone message and no reply.

Would you happen to know the size are the screws used on the shaft?

Thanks.

I will post a more detailed reply tomorrow, but for now let me say that my experience started off great...and quickly went downhill. Took me almost 3 months to get them delivered after I was told it would be 5 days. The good news when they were delivered they worked perfect.

I'm sure this comment comes with a back story....now we want to hear about it , ha
Ha... no juicy story to tell really. The marina I am moored at doesn't have completely private shower rooms like some marinas I have been at. Small stalls with only shower curtains in a communal secured area. And my bathhouse is located near the charter docks and the charter captains have a habit of giving the door code to the secured area to their clients, so the area gets trashed sometimes.

I wouldn't shower in my 340 Dancer - too small and I didn't like the idea of getting the whole head wet. Now that I have a roomy, separate shower in my stateroom - I love it!

Does anyone know where I can order the cover over two round holes for the rope locker. It’s located below the anchor on the port side, possibly horn?
