Official 380 Thread

Hi guys, shopping for our next and have a quick question that I’m sure was answered 10 times but I couldn’t find it quick.

One we are going to look at is a 99 380 with the 380hp horizons. I haven’t seen the bilge yet, but I don’t believe it has water lift mufflers. We’re these 38DA’s susceptible to the exhaust water reversion the same way the smaller DA’s of this era were?

Yes, make sure the engines and updated exhaust are inspected thoroughly by a certified, reputable MerCruiser technician.

Oh yea I do survey, leak down/compression, oil analysis, etc once we’re to deal time but I wanted to find out if these were the same issues as the “log” exhaust of the time. Thanks!

340s, 380s and 410s of this era with log mufflers and 7.4s are very susceptible. Caveat emptor!

2006 380 DA owners.....does anyone find it aggravating that you have to remove the coffee pot to empty the garbage?? Any remedies?

I use about 6 quarts. 9 quarts is about 2 gallons if my conversions are correct. Seems like a lot, so where can it be going?

Asking for a dock neighbor...2003 380 Sundancer, coming back from a boat ride today his Mercury SmartCraft was in alarm (very loud alarm, by the way) stating that "Communication Lost with Engines". He was getting Port and Starboard engine alarms for Communication Lost. We had to turn off the batter switches to reset the SmartCraft and silence the alarm. Once we turned the ignition back on, the alarm started back up and so did the error "Communication Lost with Engines".

Anyone have any experience resolving this issue? Any suggestions where to start to resolve this?

All help and comments appreciated!

Yeah, tracking this. Mine freaks out for no reason on occasion. Every warning shows up, it beeps, shows data link failure, shuts down, resets. Might do this for 2-3 minutes repeatedly, might do it once.

What size lettering did you guys use for your boat name and hailing port? We taking ownership of a 2002 next week and would like to start the process of getting the name changed. My vinyl guy needs the transom size as well as what size lettering we would like. The current owner has the boat name just on the lazarette but we want it to extend across the back. Any help would be great!

I'd have to measure but after much thought and many to-scale mock-ups I went with Lazzarette door. I wanted it to show even with the canvas in place.. Also thought the height would look a bit squat if it ran the full width of the transom. There's a lot of "things" going on back there, btwn the latches, the grab rail and the door outline.

Take a pic of your transom and photos hop out the old name and try different fonts amd sizes. I placed this myself after planning. Cost about $100. 4th boat I've added my own name to.

I literally just went through this and we spent a lot (too much) time trying to decide and ultimately came to the same conclusion as rondds that the best spacing was on the trunk door. I guess if your name was going to be a long one then spreading out would be better.

Here's a couple of my mock-ups, one with another name we were mulling over (I'm a Rush fan).

A couple of my mock ups, along with an alternate name we were kicking around (I'm also a Rush fan).

Here's a blank 380DA transom if you want to tinker...

Oh wow! They all look great. We are mulling over a longish name vs a shorter name. I love the idea of using photoshop. Thanks for the blank boat pic. Going to work on it tonight! Thanks for your help!

I have an entire set of canvas and isen glass for a 38 da. Not sure if it has value. I would love to sell it to someone who needs canvas for their boat. Came off of my 2000 Sea Ray Sundancer

The canvas is blue and in pretty good shape. We changed out everything to tan color so we took off all the blue canvas

Photo is from a couple of months ago

Reach out to me if anyone has interest at headlinesdirect@aol.com

I think i need to replace my duckbills in my 2003 380 Sundancer. Water stays in bowl but about once an hour the pump has to build up more pressure.

Sealand head. Would they be 1 1/2” ? And how many are there? 3?
