Official 380 Thread

Hi All,

Just purchased a new-to-me 2001 380 DA. The previous owner discarded the carpet runners.

Does anyone have a supplier for carpet runners for 2001 380 Sundancer? You know, the Sunbrella snap-in runners for down below... I got a price from the local canvas/upholstery company and I just want to compare so I know I'm not overpaying.

Thanks,

these are mine. My 6th season and they are holding up really well. They came with the boat so I don't know what the previous owner paid.

Rondds,
That looks like the cockpit carpet in the picture. Is that right?
I'm asking about the carpet runners for inside the cabin.
Thanks,
Paul

Oh Geeze...you're right. That's what happens when I speed read!

Quick search and I didn't see any on Flounder Pounder. Maybe Great Lakes canvas??

Have any of you guys upgraded the electronics on your boat? I am curious about how the current Raymarine or Garmin radar/chartplotters fit in the space provided on the 380da. I hope that the larger units still fit. Any pics would help. Thanks

Garmin 8608 top. Garmin 740 bottom.
In retrospect, I could have probably gotten a larger display in the top spot. I bought the replacement faux wood panel on Flounder Pounder and cut the hole for the 8608. I had to enlarge the cut-out for the 740. That spot had a 4" x 3" cutout covered by another faux wood panel.

I would think they would be between 600 & 800 installed.
Are the snaps already there? If so, then you are probably better off getting them made up by a local canvas guy.
If there aren’t any snaps I would still have a local canvas guy make them up so you can get them exactly how you want them.

Ron, did you go with an open array or dome? I like the array look. Also, did you replace the autopilot as well! Where your 740 is located is where my autopilot head is located.

I had the open array but went with a 24"dome. Not as cool looking for sure but at around 3x the price of a dome, for the way I use it, I couldn't justify the greater expense (ie: I'm too cheap to spring for it).

I kept the same autopilot...it plays very nicely with the 8208 via NMEA 0183. Even left my TriData in place. It doesn't talk to the new displays bc it only uses SeaTalk, but I don't care. The only down side is that I can't display depth on the new units, but I want depth right in front of me anyway, not off to the side.

Couple of views of dome. L to R on the helm is VHF, TriData, AP.

Ron, did you sell old equipment? I heard the old analog open array can fetch decent $

I didn't sell it. The reason for replacing everything was that the array died. I gave it to my slip neighbor because he has the same array on his boat, he's an electronics guy, and I figure he might need it for parts someday.

I did not sell my are RL80C. I tried posting it on eBay a couple of times but not a nibble. So I gave that to my neighbor also. I think at this point they are so slow and obsolete that no one really wants them anymore.

Autopilot just went and Raymarine kept bandaids on the equipment for a while as I sent some stuff in for repair. They no long will repair or support it. My electronic guy is telling me dont throw $ at a 15 year old system. Hard to bite the bullet on all new stuff.

UGH. New AP needed too!? Yeah, that hurts.

What is the problem with the AP? Just curious as I am also have problems with mine (st+7001).

Blows the 5amp fuse in the sea talk box... when that happens I loose my gps and don't get a fixed position. He said pump is bad which is expensive part to the system. None of these guys want to fix anything... just want to sell a new package, not solve a problem.

That's when you have to research and find out for yourself if there is indeed a solution. These guys are not going to tell you if there is. Most times there is none...we are in the age of disposables, esp with electronics.

a peculiar noise is heard from starboard drive when going to neutral from either forward / reverse while docking,(600 rpm's +/-). The sound is brief and stops when shaft / transmission stop turning. Hard to verbalize the sound or spell it out but its an "ERRRRR". Sound is louder on swim platform which begs question is it transmission or shaft issue.
ANY THOUGHTS appreciated!

454 MPI Horizon w/Hurth ZF HSW 630v1 transmissions. Cutlass bearings, shaft alignment, props mapped recently, no grounding or collision with debris. Perfect trip to fuel/pump out, following day "the NOISE".

Thanks

That's a different problem than mine. Mine works for a minute and then stops steering. The error code indicates that it can't steer due to a problem with the steering or excessive seas but that is not the case. Also wants to be constantly calibrated. Thankfully it still gives me heading data so the rest of my stuff works properly. As long as that continues to work it's probably not something I will replace at this point. AP is a luxury but not a necessity for the boating I do.

Hey guys another issue for me. My mercruiser 8.1s both seem to develop a lot of oily residue at the flame arrestors. I clean with tbi cleaner but it comes back. The engines seem to run fine. I will change plugs and wires soon but I am a little concerned.

Thanks

Ray

Hi guys, shopping for our next and have a quick question that I’m sure was answered 10 times but I couldn’t find it quick.

One we are going to look at is a 99 380 with the 380hp horizons. I haven’t seen the bilge yet, but I don’t believe it has water lift mufflers. We’re these 38DA’s susceptible to the exhaust water reversion the same way the smaller DA’s of this era were?
