CSR Northeast Flotilla 2018 (Heading to Chesapeake Bay)

We are aiming to leave tomorrow AM, we decided against running into 6-8' seas on day 1 for the first 3-4 hours!

If tomorrow goes well we may get to Atlantic City Saturday night, but that would be a stretch.

Scott,
If you can make it to NYC by tomorrow night, you'll have a company to cruise with on Sat am. There's definitely an opening tomorrow AM for you to get going. It'll start off a bit rough, but the closer you get to LIS the better it'll be. Once in LIS, you'll be fine all the way to lower Manhattan.

Wishing all of you Fair winds and following seas. Have a great trip! We will be joining Ron and Dean in a voyage to Martha's Vinyard.

Good luck Scott!! keep us posted...

Susquahanna just opened up all units to prevent flooding in PA. Lots of debris going to be coming down into the bay. Be careful and keep a close eye on the water, especially in the northern part.

Thanks for heads up.

Thanks Harold. Have a safe one!

The journey has begun! We had a tough start, winds were light but still had a decent sized sea. The worst part was visibility was no better than 1/2 mile untill we got off the north fork of LI. The good news is the new electronics work awesome, love the new Radar and having AIS.

We're about 20nm short of the bulk of the group in NYC but will catch up somewhere between here and Atlantic City!

Looks like the NYC crew is getting some T-storms, hope you guys are doing ok.

swaterhouse....regarding AIS....do you have a receiver only or a transponder? I'm checking www.marinetraffic.com to check for pleasure craft. Have fun and a safe trip.

Just receive right now, but will swap with the new VHF that also is a transponder over the winter once it's released. So nice to be able to correlate radar targets with an actual AIS signal, reduces a lot of stress in low vis!

Ran into Annapolis this morning from Middle River. LOTS of debris. Suggest two sets of eyes on the water.

Ran from Cambridge to Middle River this afternoon, from Rock Hall to below Annapolis a lot of stuff floating from tires to big wood, above Rock Hall to Middle river ran at speed

Definitely be careful out there, ESPECIALLY the further north you are on the Bay. They opened 12 or so spillways of the Conowingo Dam over the weekend and the Bay is absolutely riddled with very large and dangerous debris. Mostly trees. Not branches. Not limbs, but trees. Run-offs like this happen once a decade or so. Be safe, fellas.

The other problem is the water quality. A lot of us chose not to swim in the water this weekend due to bacteria levels from the flooding. I would rinse off well after being in the water for the near future.

I second the two sets of eyes. These are just a few examples I have seen and the few I spoke with that went out this weekend confirmed it

here's a good example of the crap in the bay right now...

This is what the Annapolis Harbor looked like Sunday when we were there

Ego Alley yielded at least two full dump trucks and is pretty clear. But as of this morning, there is still a constant flow of debris moving south. I went out and saw several logs - 6"-12" diameter and 8'-12' long - along with chunks, stumps, branches, etc. I turned around and headed back to the dock.
