Westerbeke Generator wiring to remote start

If all your basic colors are correct then:

Your wires = Westerbeke

Yellow/Red = Yellow/Red
Red/Violet = Red/Violet
White/Red = White/Red
Green = Red/White (Process of elimination)
Yellow = White (I'm guessing because it is shared on both switches)

It's easy enough to see where the Green and Yellow go to confirm the wires. I would also make the extra effort to make sure the basic colors go to where they are supposed to go. Then I would change out the switches to match the 2 switch Westerbeke diagram. Just my thoughts.

FYI,
After looking closer at the orange wire that goes from the gen. wiring harness into the breaker box it appears to pass through the box and attach somewhere on the stator.

I haven’t got to my boat yet.
I do remember the orange wire connected to the intergal controller above the windings looking in the back end of the generator.
My old one shared the same terminal with a yellow wire but, the new back end it had its own spot next to the yellow wire.

Orange and yellow sharing the same terminal on the controller.
Both connected to the heat sink looking thing in the pic.

Orange wire connects to that and then both connect to the heat sink looking controller.

Also it just may be easier to replace the switches. They are available at West Marine.

Thank you for your help. I will post a picture of my panel later today. If you could or want to (I know it's a pain to get at the gen.) Maybe take a picture of the inside of the control box on the genset.
Thanks again.

My generator is actually pretty easy to get to. I probably won't get to the marina until tomorrow. I will try to post an update tomorrow evening.

My Generator uses the aforementioned Westerbeke harness to plug into the generator. I'll bet the wire colors inside the control box match the harness.

Looks like you know what to do with these generator problems. The one in my 1990 39 express is the Quicksilver 120v60 & 240v 50 cycle 10.0kw gas. The unit ran last year worked fine then it started overcharging, although with that problem it would still run. This year it will not start at all. The plugs are black, it is getting fuel.

Doug,

You have gotten 28 years out of that generator which they stopped making 22 years ago. How many hours do you have on it?

In regards to overcharging that is usually associated with the governor which controls the throttle linkage. If you do a search you will see a number of issues associated with the governor (low oil) which typically cause the problem you are experiencing. Also check the carb choke plate to make sure it is open.

Rebuilding the carb (which is easy to do) may also help.

I believe I have your existing wiring sorted out.

On the Start/Run/Stop switch you have four wires:

Back of Switch
Top Left -Red/Purple goes to T3-1
Top Right -Jumpers to Preheat switch Top Right (shown as Yellow on Westerbeke Diagram).
Bottom Left - Red/Purple connects to both bottom lugs on Preheat switch.
Bottom Right- is Yellow/Red and connects to T3-2

On the Preheat switch you have four wires:

Top Left -?
Top Right -Jumper from Start Switch and Yellow feeder to T4-3
Bottom Left -Red/Purple jumper to Start Switch and Red/purple feeder to T4-1
Bottom Right -Red Jumper from Start Switch

The two remaining wires on your diagram are Green and a White/red. I'm hoping that if you take another look at the switch you will find both connected together to the Top Left lug of the Preheat switch. If that is the case then the Green wire goes to T4-5 and the White/red goes to T4-2.

I used this diagram which came with your 7.0 BCG to sort it out. Basically if you combine the two left switches (Start & Stop) together.....you have a very close version of your hand drawn diagram.

Thank you Play Date for your time. I think I am looking at this wrong. Being that the 7.0 was replaced with a 6.5, I should be changing the wires on the two remote panel switches to match Westerbeke 6.5 wiring diagram and just ignore the color wires I have now.

Want to thank Air O'Nautical also for taking those pictures and your input. That help me to determine where the orange (red wire) goes. This also was a little bit of a different location because of the model but was very close.
