Just read this in an email flyer sent to me from a boat broker. Had to read it a few times... interesting way of comparing new inventory to the used inventory...

"XXX Yacht Sales has available a brand new 2019 Sea Ray L550. Its an absolutely gorgeous boat and looks and feels just like a pre-owned 2016 L590 we have for sale."

Had no idea you were in the market for that kind of upgrade Harold......And yes, I think used can be "better than new" because of all the "teething troubles" new boats can have - but you're right, why would the broker list it like that - should have just said "don't buy this overpriced new boat we have, buy the three year old one that some poor slob already took a hit on"

I got the same email. I didn't look at the spec sheets but I assumed the 550 is really the same size as the older 590? Maybe they were trying make people understand it's not a smaller model. Weird ad either way

Even funnier to me was the little blurb about how that boat was built before the announcement. Basically, "this one isn't a POS because the employees still thought they had jobs"

I can think of no other company that has done more to confuse and obfuscate their products in the marketplace than SeaRay. I used to own a 2008 330 Dancer and know firsthand how much confusion they caused with their constant misleading model # changes over time. I'm at the point at which anyone is discussing a SeaRay model the first thing I ask is what year. Crazy marketing strategy. Maybe they kept moving the number higher to disguise their price increases.
