Montauk Yacht Club Rates

As I sit under a Cabana by the pool having my breakfast (delivered by a lovely pool girl) at MYC, I cant think of a better place to be in the Northeast. My kids love this place, my wife loves this place and that makes it easy for me to love this place. Yes, it's a little costly but what about boating isn't? There may be less expensive alternatives but I haven't found any comparable to MYC. I also agree with the comments on Seaview, great quiet little marina, steps away from all the wild nightlife of FI in either direction. Little bit of a challenge getting into the marina though. I paid almost as much at Champlin's on Block last week without the Yacht Club feel, but that's not what I (or I bet most others) go to Block Island for. As others have said, lots of choices, you just have to find what's right for you. For my money, it's MYC....Paul, when do you arrive? We'll be in slip 644 till at least Thursday.

Yeh, the marina is tight, we were in the 2nd slip closest to the entrance (North Dock), and must have 50' (maybe) from pole to dock on the opposite side. No room for error (or a 58 ;)...Without a doubt the best marinas for protection in that area. Any place in Ocean Beach, or Ocean Bay Park are way too exposed to the bay. I found that the further towards the end (where I was) was affected by the ferry traffic and the occasional "big boat" passing on the outside. A buddy of mine was on the south dock (further in) and was not rocking half as much as ours. All in all, a cool place to visit.

MYC - I'll be passing you in the Ocean on Thursday. We're spending the weekend there, and shoving off the Champlins for the following week.

I agree with you 100%. The staff "gets" customer service, you really feel like they want to please. I love pulling up a mooring ball, in a remote place, for different reasons. And, we only do MYC 1X a year, usually. Yes, it's more expensive, but it's our number 1 favorite place to dock. We do take advantage of the pools, gym, ice, towels, etc., but something else we take advantage are the free bike rentals.

@PMC... I'm have that spot the weekend of the 14th and the 28th... Think I should ask them to move me further in? The ferry really get annoying???

I was there a few weeks ago and I had a slip half way down... It was pretty calm...

I had to keep the boat well over a foot from the bulkhead, otherwise I'd hit with ferry traffic. I have little kids on and off constantly, and the big gap was stressful.

They told me that first 7 are transients this year. If you can move further down, you won't be disappointed.

No such luck... Will hope for the best..

we stayed at MYC in july and paid 40' minimum but 6.oo per foot plus 20 electric plus 15 "resort" fee. I might have paid less since I booked it the end of winter.
I agree it was a nice place but when your used to 2.00 to 4.00 ............and there electric rate is the same as everywhere else who charges 8.00...
we were told we had to do it once and it was nice but prob go elsewhere next time...

I will never complain about my $5200.00 a year covered slip with shore power and water on Lake Cumberland. No pool but the lake water is really clear !! That is some serious jack for a slip.

We were there a couple of times this season, since it was acquired by Gurney's. I heard they paid IGY double what they bought it for. Also, word is a major project is going to take place, over the winter. I wouldn't be surprised if the marina gets updated. Floating docks would be nice. Lastly, rumor is they're more likely to favor less of the seasonal business and more transient, over time.

You paid $9/foot? What made you pick this marina over Star Island or Boat Basin?

i just got back from star island yacht club and they are charging 7.00 a foot and 30 for electric. Montauk is getting ridiculous. Its nice but prices are getting a bit nuts.

We do a lot of Cruising on the east end, block, Martha's, Nantucket, Newport and Conn shoreline. Montauk is a special place and we always find ourselves back there. All the premium destinations are raising prices.

I’ve got a Saturday wedding to go to in Montauk in July of next year. The transient docks are cheap in comparison to what they’re getting for rooms out there these days.
A friend recently went to a wedding out there and paid over 4K for 3 nights at Gurneys by the time the taxes and mandatory resort fees were factored in. That was after the “group wedding discount”.
I would need two rooms with my two grown college aged kids.
Honestly, IMHO, it’s nice, but it isn’t that nice in Montauk.
It used to be the poor man’s Hamptons.
Now the young couple are looking in to reserving a block of rooms somewhere in Riverhead and renting buses to shuttle guests back and forth to the wedding.
The ride from Riverhead to Montauk could be murder on a summer Saturday.
I don’t think they thought this out before deciding on a Montauk wedding.
Seriously considering just getting a limo to drive us out there and pick us up again when the wedding is over and then drive us back home.

Easy answer: don't stay at Gurney's. You can get houses/cottages for that price. You can find plenty of places at a fraction of the cost. Gurney's always has plenty of availability for a reason...

Also plenty of marina dock options that are a fraction of Gurney's $9/foot.

Don't feed the beast, it only promotes this type of ridiculousness.

Even the private rentals usually want a 3 night minimum these days and while less money, they’re still overpriced.
I wouldn’t spend that much for Montauk. Been out there plenty of times over the years and while it’s a nice place it isn’t worth anywhere near that much. There’s a lot nicer places to go for a lot less money.
I think they get the overflow from the Hamptons and the people who don’t want to, or can’t spend the money for the Hamptons houses look to Montauk.
Honestly, if it weren’t my nephew’s wedding we probably wouldn’t go.
These “destination type weddings” are getting to be out of control.
My neighbors daughter is doing one too next year and her parents are not happy about it. They told her it’s her wedding and she has the right to make it whatever she wants it to be but she has to accept that some people won’t go. We won’t be making that one.
We’ll probably just do the limo thing, or if we do rent a place it will be with other family members to break up the cost, be bigger, and more than likely in East Hampton which IMHO is nicer.

I just looked into all options as I have a function out there. Yes, many places are three night minimum, but some are two. Still some times makes sense to pay for three nights, even if staying for two. We found houses/cottages/apartments in the $4k range that could accommodate ~12 guests for three nights. You of course can go even cheaper and find apartments/rooms in the $2-300 range per night that can accommodate 4. A limo will be pricey. May just want to price out uber or take LIRR/bus.

they are up to $9 per foot HAHAHA
We are planning on 4 nights in August, and just did the math. My family LOVES MYC, but I have to consider the increased rate now and justify the trip. I always though of this place as expensive, but worth it....At 9/ft - Yikes!

I think Montauk Marine basin is excellent bang for the buck. They were $3/foot when I stayed a couple times a couple years ago. Now up to $4/foot.

I’m thinking of maybe of one of those big luxury limo bus type things that the proms use. Going to poll some relatives to see what they think about all kicking in for it since many have also expressed their displeasure with the rates and accommodations out there. Several of the families live within a few minutes of each other so a common meeting spot is easy.
The ride out there is going to be killer on a July weekend, but at least those monsters are comfortable and can fit a lot of people.
